Faulty TV Company Bust

Hi there,
I purchased a TV from Electrocentre in Birmingham last year which has developed a fault. The company has gone into liquidation so I have gone back to my credit card provider to make a claim. I have explained the fault and they are telling me i need to get some kind of independent company to verify the fault exists and want to know why I wont have it repaired under its guarantee.
I don't want a thousand pound tv less than 6 months old repaired if it's gone wrong this quick i just don't want it. I did speak to LG in the first instance and they obviously said they have never heard of the fault i was describing and said they could collect the TV and have it into their service center but the downside of this was it would be away for at least two to three weeks. This may be acceptable to some but I'm pretty much housebound with arthritis and i also have children. It may sound silly but it's the only entertainment i have and also, my sons homework a couple of weeks back was to analyze some TV adverts.
How can I respond to this when they call me back, I told the call centre person to escalate it because he was making no sense and just wasting my time. Please help

In this case, the credit card company are wrong to ask you to get the thing inspected.Hi there,

If the TV is less than six months old then any fault is deemed to be inherent and it is for the seller, or in this case the credit card company, to prove otherwise.
However, having said that, the CC co could also offer a repair if that is the most cost effective remedy.
You do have the right to request a particular remedy, i.e. refund, but you cannot force the seller to provide a disproportionately costly remedy.
Be aware also that if a refund is decided upon, that could be reduced to take account of the use you have had.
Have a read of MSE's Consumer Rights article and their Section 75 Refunds document.
Check again that you are within six months from purchase, as over six months you do need to prove that the fault is not due to misuse, carelessness, etc., and it may well be easier to go the LG guarantee route.0 -
I suspect you are going to have the TV repaired unless LG write it off. I think it unreasonable on your part to expect otherwise.
You only have one TV? In that case you can watch on your PC, laptop etc.
Here you go:- http://www.tvcatchup.com/channels.html0 -
When did you buy the Tv, electro centre closed the the business on the 5th July which would make your Tv over 6 months old?0

In that case OP will need to get a report for the CC company, in which case we are back to the best option being send it back to LG.
But I suspect this is not what the OP was wanting to hear.0 -
Thank you for the helpful replies. The TV is actually over siz months old now but looks like I may have been one of their last transactions.
@Hintza, yes I only have one TV. I also think it's unreasonable i have been crippled with arthritis at 43 and had my life taken away from me. I didn't ask for your opinion on that.
@mattyprice Maybe it's not an inconvenience for you, I take it from your comment pick one up from freecycle your mobile enough to do that. It's an inconvenience when your bed/chair bound. Try it one day.
Again thank you to everyone else who offered help. My hope is the CC company may show some compassion and offer the refund I would have got a couple of years back while I was still able to take the goods back to someone.0 -

And Hintza didn't offer an opinion on that, did he?
Have another read of Hintza's posts.
Personally they look fine to me.
When a remedy is supplied under the Sale of Goods Act, it must be done "within a reasonable time but without causing significant inconvenience to the buyer".
Hintza has explained to you how a repair need not be a significant inconvenience.0 -
They'll offer the cheapest and least hassly option legally available to them.Thank you for the helpful replies. The TV is actually over siz months old now but looks like I may have been one of their last transactions.

I never offered an opinion on nor mentioned your condition, so please don't try and make me feel guilty.
Some of us have our own personal health issues which we keep private and don't play the "woe is me card".....:mad:0 -
Hintza, I said i never asked for you opinion if you thought what i was asking about was reasonable or not. You jumped on your moral high horse and questioned if I only have one TV in the house which YES I DO and how should i watch TV on a borrowed laptop ?
You know f all about me, how this crappy illness cost me my house my job, everything i own. Im not playing any card, I mentioned my condition for reasons no more than it would look ridiculous for someone fit, well and healthy to worry about not having a TV but when the most you can do is drag yourself to the sofa to try and kill the boredom that is laying in bed most days not just due to the arthritis but the 300gm + of morphine daily it takes to keep the pain under control, then yes it becomes a very big thing.
So keep your internet brave, fiery angry face to yourself, people like you hide behind keyboards thinking there safe. It makes me sick.
Woe is me.....woe is you, get a life. All you had to do if you wanted to interact with my question was reply, not judge if you thought it was unreasonable or not.0
