Does a "query" on credit file effect credit score?

I have looked at my credit file on the Equifax website and I have an old BT account on there from a previous address. The credit file shows a Q (query) for 3 consecutive months before it was settled. Does this effect my credit score in any way? I cancelled the account and moved out but it was not cancelled correctly at BTs end, which I didnt find out about until I received a letter to my new address from a debt collection agency. At the time I called BT and resolved the issue and they assured me it wouldn't effect my credit score.
