Right i have somethings to add

Virgin will supply you with a Modem which has an ethernet connection for connecting to one Pc at a time.
I would go for this IF you reserve online to pick up you pay online prices
This will connect to your modem virgin supply you with and enable wireless connection and wired connection
I suggest that you use wired on the desktop and wireless on your laptop. Wireless is as safe as wired if WPA security is used.
What is the model of your laptop, if it doesnt have inbult wireless then you will need to buy a card or a usb stick for it(around £20)
and then you are off to go..
If you need any help setting it up when you get it post back
