Leaking water via the roof..

Well.. s*ds law wasn't it. You find a car in your price range, you're in a hurry to buy one and when you finally find it the seller is one of them who don't believe in maintanence but just "run it into the ground". He openly admitted having done no maintenance to it for 2 years
Anyway all seemed well, car was purchased, couple of days later there is water in the rood liner above the passenger sun visor (which by strange coincidence is mouldy).
I've looked around and can see 2 potential places for the water to be leaking in. Both are round the side of the windscreen.
Anyone here ever dealt with a leak like this? Did you uhave to take out the windscreen to deal with it or is there a miracle product out there that will do the job somehow? - I'd use some bathroom sealant stuff but its white not black lol.
I can remove the screen myself (and have the tools having done so previously) I'd just prefer not to do such a pig of a job.. especially at this time of year

If it's the screen, removal is the best option as you seem to know. I did once successfully seal a screen with silicone sealant - you can buy it in black too!0

Bold bit wasn't required and makes you sound like you're a racist.0 -

Yet the headliner _above_ the windscreen's wet? Are you parking it upside down, p'raps?
Does it have a sunroof? Are the drain tubes blocked or detached?
Roof-mount radio aerial?Anyone here ever dealt with a leak like this? Did you uhave to take out the windscreen to deal with it or is there a miracle product out there that will do the job somehow? - I'd use some bathroom sealant stuff but its white not black lol.
Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure.
No, seriously.
Don't use bathroom sealant - many of them are acidic as they cure, and will rot the steel out in no time. If you're going to use some kind of mastic, use proper body mastic. If the leak's bigger than Tolley'll sort, then mastic'll do the job.I can remove the screen myself (and have the tools having done so previously) I'd just prefer not to do such a pig of a job.. especially at this time of year
Is it really a gasket-mount 'screen? What car? Bonded glass has been ubiquitous for decades now.0 -

I'm not a racist, the guy was a charming bloke but he openly admitted he didn't do a thing to the car maintenance wise. It shows - mould in the boot too.
I'm sure we have plenty of people here who are just as guilty. The thing with the foreigners though is that they sell you their car and then go home - leaving you with no recourse when you find the things they didn't tell you about. At least with a UK seller you can go and find them again if you need to.
For your happiness though I have removed two words from my initial post.0 -

lol no but I did notice two gaps in the rubber round the top of the windscreen. Just wondering if the metal has rusted through and letting water in.Does it have a sunroof? Are the drain tubes blocked or detached?
Roof-mount radio aerial?
No sunroof, radio aerial at the middle of the car (though it is at the front). The rest of the roof liner seems fine though.Don't use bathroom sealant - many of them are acidic as they cure, and will rot the steel out in no time. Cheers for that :beer:Is it really a gasket-mount 'screen? What car? Bonded glass has been ubiquitous for decades now.
Not a clue mate. All i know is that most windscreens have bond around them and then rubber round the glass on top of that. I know the bond can crack too as I had a screen replaced a couple of years back and the guy said all the bond at the bottom had cracked through causing my windscreen condensation.0 -

They didn't need to be there in the first place.0 -

There's your culprit, right there. The seal at the base of the aerial's leaking. Not a clue mate. All i know is that most windscreens have bond around them and then rubber round the glass on top of that.
On modern bonded windscreens, the glass is literally glued to the bodyshell, and the rubber's just a finishing strip. Forget trying to refit a removed windscreen. It just isn't going to happen.
On older gasket-mount windscreens, the glass sits in one side of an H-shaped rubber, and the steel lip in the other. These are/were much more prone to leak, but can be removed and refitted.0 -
Well a lot of things in life happen that don't need to. Bankers brought our economy to its knees and that didn't need to happen either.
Did I even mention skin colour? Did I say anything negative about the seller? No. All I did was state facts.
I am not politically correct but neither are many people across the planet.0 -

You don't need to mention skin colour.
What you said wasn't a positive comment so you did say something negative.
Your ignorance has nothing to do with bankers and the economy.0 -

It wasn't negative either. It was factual.0
