When we had rats in the roof  before we were re-thatched, they climbed up a climbing plant, or trellis, got onto the single-story extension roof and squeezed through the gap between that and the thatch to get into the roof void. Then once in, they went all over the house, although the nest was in the loft. We did manage their removal ourselves but did have to call the pest man when a wasps nest appeared in the roof right by our Son's bedroom window.
This year we have a bumble-bee nest in one of the veg beds. In with the peas, they might be a write off as they keep making new entrances all over the bed.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Oh no, rats are such a pain. We had some once after someone did some building work near us and must have disturbed them. We also get them up the stables, but that's not such an issue. I hope the pest man gets it sorted soon.0

Thank you all! He mentioned about trellis, actually, and there are two trellises still up there - one on the porch, which is an extension, and the other on the brick shed at the back. I don't like plants growing up the house, so I'll take them off, and fill the holes.
I begged him to take on the work  and he did, he's obviously a goodhearted soul. He's put some poison up there, and he'll be turning up weekly by appointment until the poison isn't snaffled any more. It was interesting to hear him talk about why laying some out regularly, rather than blitzing, was the right way to go.
Since then, anyway, I've cleared the patio and the pathway - a whole binbag of rubbish had accumulated both from the little bonfires I had, and from pulling up assorted weeds as and when I went past :rotfl: Ready to do a humongous weeding session.
Wanted to do something writer-y too, which I wanted to do while catsitting but never got round to it. So I got round to it this afternoon, working on the European travel thing. It's been fun remembering one of the places I stayed before I landed up with the awful lot2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Eeek at rats KC!  I actually quite like a rat, and spent a while watching a couple of cute ones near a lake in a local park last weekend, running in and out of a couple of pipes. But I would NOT want them in the house! Eek indeed!
Glad the pest control guy was helpful though, and about the cluster flies too. Hope your house will be your own again soon!0 -

Today, the weeding near the house will be the priority - a bit of stuff that comes from next doorand I think I know where they've been getting in, which puzzled the pest control guy. My kitchen smells like the loft, and its coming from the corner cupboard on the outside (right by where the weeds are coming through from next door
).
As for the writing, I was just writing about the time I met a huge gecko in my bathroom in France - I'd much rather have geckoes, quite frankly :beer:Save2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Tame domestic pet rats and wild feral rats are quite different beasts KC!0

Well, true
I don't have a thing about rats the way I do about spiders, thats all - I just don't like electrical cables being chewed through, or the amount of noise they make, or the smell, yuck!
