A lot of these 'BT' calls are coming from UK numbers which show up in full on the caller display, not just withheld or unavailable. I can understand that they are selling databases (probably to crooks all over the world) but how come a lot of the callers are UK based yet still Indian?

They're not. You have a company start up which buys some "lines" (yes they're still called that...) from a provider in the UK. They then transport calls across the Internet, and then out via a SIP trunk to their provider. National calls are always cheaper than international calls. By the time there's enough complaints for them to be shut down, they've more than made enough money to be able to abandon any equipment - but usually they have enough time and notice to retrieve it.

    Then they start again.

This (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3488595/Genius-mummy-s-boy-40-million-cold-calls-childhood-bedroom-family-semi.html) is a similar sort of set-up, he just made the mistake of sticking around too long.
The callers always have an Indian accent so I hang up as soon as poss. Yesterday I merely said to the guy (with a Manchester dialling code) who announced he was from BT that it was a scam and he got very upset and said he could prove that it wasn't. I didn't give him the opportunity to try;) but sometimes wonder if I'm missing a genuine contact call.

What would you be expecting from a call from BT? They're not going to give you something useful like winning lottery numbers.

There's another thing I badly want to know - how do I get my answerphone to tell me there's been a message left, on the same day as the message is left? A million virtual pounds to the person who comes up with an answer I can understand.:D

Ooh! I'm not going to imagine what you're doing that gets complete strangers ringing you from all over the country ;):p :kisses3:

It's our landline, KC, not a mobile. Can't help with any other answerphones, sorry.

There's nothing untoward with the other strangers who ring us, KC:rotfl: but as it's the house phone and OH gets lots of business enquiry calls they need to be answered by whoever is here at the time and that's usually me.

It does on my landline, Beanie, but not my mobile. Does your mobile flash (that sounds ever so rude :D)?

CBC - the daring fantasies were better than you simply using your landline for new business :rotfl: but thats what I used to do too :)

    Have a fabulous afternoon :)
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!
