Thank you Ed! Much appreciated. Thats not a one off read, and I need to take the laptop downstairs and read it in comfort

That's quite a hefty article KC, I think 'people of a certain age' might be better off printing it out - easier to go back and forwards on it when you don't quite grade something (or maybe that was just me :o). Why not print it out and take it with you on holiday?
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

You're probably right GG. Because I'm a retirement wonk, I like to have it open digitally so that I can spreadsheet the calculations as I go :)

Well done:T. It must have been quite a job:eek:. I trust you wore a mask though.
I may not have :o and that was really dumb, seeing as I wear a mask to clean the stairs :o

Hmmm, I might do. I wasn't able to read it as planned because of downloading huge wedding pic files, I'll have another go later today and see. When I go back and forth I *do* like printed, you're right :p

So, I've been dipping my toe into P2P :j:j:j and the wedding photo stuff has made me discover Google Drive, 15 gig free storage that could be quite handy for the writing - I wouln't put anything confidential on *any* cloud storage, but good to know.

Otherwise, I'm in holiday preparation mode :j

I don't know about anyone else but I found it a bit spooky that as soon as you posted on here about your experience with E-on over the cancellation a rep popped up on your thread:eek:. I've seen this happen before on other threads. Do these company reps haunt the threads waiting until their company name is mentioned? Or maybe they have special software that flags up any comments made about them. Either way, it's all a bit Big Brotherish:eek:
I'm sorry I started this subject now as I'd hate to cause any disquiet to anyone:o

The reason the rep popping up disturbs me is that they can then associate our username on here and all that goes with it (which they couldn't know otherwise) with lots of our personal details which they have access to from our 'real life' dealings with them.

I don't know about anyone else but I really appreciate the anonymity of being able to talk about anything on these threads and divulge things about ourselves that we maybe wouldn't in real life. It's not that we have anything sinister to hide, it's just a kind of therapy in a way:)
Maybe you're right, beanielou:). Over-thinking situations has been my downfall over the years:o. I wasn't suggesting that the E-on rep is anything but honourable and that our privacy will not be safeguarded. It's just the fact that our 'real' and 'virtual' lives could be associated by businesses. It makes me uneasy.

Hello carbootcrazy and sorry if I've caused you and others disquiet. Thought it might help if I pop on and explain what we do on this and other Forums.

We're customer service advisors only. Our intention is to try to help E.ON customers past and present with any issues, questions, views they might have. Sometimes, where we spot a discussion/post where we think we can add something or explain a particular issue, we'll stop by and comment. We aim to try to make E.ON related stuff a little smoother and clearer whether it's for an existing or former customer.

Helena, Amy and I can usually be found on the Energy Board. We do, though, realise E.ON related issues aren't restricted to this board and so actively look to see if there are other areas where we might help. This is by using MSE's search facility only. No special software. Sometimes we'll post fairly rapidly but at other times it could be in a few days. Depends on our work/shift patterns.

We've been involved with MSE since 2009 and between us have posted something like over 6000 times. Our signature confirms we're official reps posting with MSE's permission. As such, we're careful to follow the rules and won't become involved in selling, marketing or touting in any way. As I say, we're here to help.

Beyond a poster's MSE username, we've no idea of individual identities. There's no link to any other forms of contact with us and nothing to disturb your anonymity. Customers can, if they wish, talk to us through the email address in our Profile if they would like a specific issue looking at. This, though, is down to the individual customer.

Hope this helps ease your mind a little but please let me know if you've any further concerns.

And yep, a company rep popping on here happened the first time I mentioned their voucher system! The speed is slightly spooky, isn't it ... they're upfront about being Eon, they don't pretend to be something they're not, so I can live with it - it's like if you're on Twitter and a company rep comes by when you mention them. But its a frill, like the vouchers, and lower prices would be more productive in terms of customer appreciation and retention. I received £25 in vouchers! My DD wasn't much more than that, so it was almost a whole month's gas and elec supply.

Oh, I didn't even think of that :eek::eek: but you're right! And I'm **glad** you raised it.

And bleepity bleep, I mentioned the exact amount of the refund I was due _pale_ I think I'd like Eon Company Rep to come back on and explain the company policies and the company actions, which are different things for many companies :(

:T:T You could write a book, Z! Thanks for that. Not saying ... yep! I was thinking about finance planning on here, and for a brief, foolish moment, I was actually going to list savings and pension totals. Not now :D And CBC, what you wrote, about the concern that "our 'real' and 'virtual' lives could be associated by businesses", I think it's a legitimate concern, I really do. This is all very interesting!

The company we've been talking about has obviously decided this thread is none of its business since I left it in any case - fair enough :p

    Hello Karmacat.

Hope my post above to carbootcrazy explains what we do on MSE and helps ease your mind a little. As you say, we try to be upfront with who we are and what we do. Just to confirm, there's no association between your MSE username and any accounts you may have held with us either now or in the past.

Hello Malc :) it's obvious that you're being above board in the name that you have, it makes it perfectly clear, don't worry.

But as for trusting, as a matter of principle, a big multinational or even national company to never, ever put together two sources of information, or that they would put my interests above theirs, sorry, not really. And of course, why should they put my interests above theirs? I don't put their interests above mine, after all. A company exists to make profit for it's shareholders. In other contexts, I'm a shareholder, both directly and indirectly, so I accept that fact of life. It's inconvenient when it comes to my electricity bill etc :D but it has to work both ways, that's only fair :D

In other news: I'm tidying and packing :j:j:j

I hope that the holiday prep is going well and that you have a great time, you have been looking forward to it for such a long time.

The good news is that OH, hairy dog and I go on hols to north Wales on Friday, the :eek::eek::eek::eek: news for someone with low/no energy is that we collect our new to us caravan tomorrow morning and all the removed contents from the other one have to be fitted in before Friday morning, the difficulty being that the storage set up is totally different and goodness only knows where everything will live:( a case of (gently) chuck it all in and sort it out when we get there I think:rotfl: the other :eek::eek::eek: thing is that we have a brand new awning to put up, no time for a trial run, I think there will be a few bleeps uttered and possibly some minor squabbles!

Hoping that your journey is smooth and that it does not exhaust you too much.

Thanks both :) yep, its fine, thank you - I'm "packing" some digital stuff too, the large-size wedding photos and the genealogy research about the French branch of the family, all is well :)

Maddie - my journey will be fine, thank you, I just need to get to my sister's under my own steam, a short country bus journey I do regularly in any case. Then it's a case of sitting in her car while her satnav tells us what to do :)

Your journey sounds a little more fraught, with a caravan you've only owned for 24 hours!!! Take care of yourself, and let me know how the holiday goes - after we bought a car when I was a child, North Wales was our choice for days out.

Today, I've snaffled my reserved ebook from the library (I can take it with me because its on the computer now!) and ordered a Sainsbo delivery for when I get back. I love that :)
