  • Hi KC and everyone :D

Oooh - i didn't know the basics were that price - do you have any basics that you recommend KC ? I coul do with shaving some money off the shopping and this could really help - it will mean more time spent shopping so i want to weigh up if its worth while - also i have bought quite a few things own brand in the past from different supermarkets - not that one and alot of it i didn't like :o So recommendations would be fab :T

Fab news that you have friday nights off :T

Thanks for the congrats, folks :kisses3: :j I don't know *what* I'll do at the moment - revel in it first, for sure :rotfl:

DDFW, I don't understand why there isn't rebellion at the price of cornflakes and breakfast cereals in the shops, I really don't - all the supermarkets have their own bog standard brands, and they're the same price as the Sainsbo Basics (the cheap supermarkets don't, and thats another ripoff). They all taste and look roughly the same, except for Asda - or used to be, I haven't shopped there for a while. Asda smartprice cornflakes are gourmet :rotfl: I'm not kidding - they were very big flakes, and very lightly toasted, absolutely lovely!

As for general Basics - I buy Basics whenever I can, except for tea bags and toilet paper, the bad quality really shows on those, I think. So I don't have any specific recs, sorry. Other people have very decided opinions - but for me, my taste buds/olfactory senses were wrecked when I was a child, I was always sensitive to pollution, got lots of catarrh and stuff, and I often can't taste things that are very clear to other people :o so my recs aren't worth much in that way :D

Weekend - eek! I'm off for the day in about 30 mins, must get dressed! - family do, 5 family members coming down from London (plus a new girlfriend? don't know) and we're having a delayed New Year meal in the country. Sunday, I'd really like to get out into the garden, but as my shoulder can only take about 30 mins work, I'll just *have* to go for a countryside walk :D:j to get some exercise

    I like basics teabags.
I drink my tea very weak so they are maybe not to everyone's taste.
I buy their tinned veg & custard & rice~ both pudding & long grain..I like their tuna & their eggs are ok & not caged.

It was great, Alchemilla, thanks for posting :kisses3: Everybody got through the flood diversions, everybody got back safely, we never stopped talking :rotfl:, I "met" the new little great nephew, who is currently minus four months old (i.e. his mum is five months pregnant :D), we exchanged Christmas pressies, and generally had a fine old time. I was *completely* shattered when I got back, and was actually asleep by about 10.15 - on a Saturday night  TS Eliot said it, "I grow old, I grow old, I shall wear the bottoms of my trouser rolled" :rotfl:

Sorry Beanie :o:o:o I do take my tea a little bit stronger than I used to, and thats probably it, you're right - I find them a bit harsh. Or maybe I'm thinking of the Red? Or *is* that Basics? Maybe I should investigate again - certainly, if it turns out that I *do* like Basics, it'd save me a ton of money. Thanks for posting!

So, two things that were genuinely on my list for today have already been done:
    - phone call re. client.
    - chase builder for quote (he turned up just after the phone call, so I'm happy).

I couldn't sleep on Sunday morning, so I threw out a *ton* of papers and newspaper clippings that I'd never looked out since I stored them - I did a lot of finishing off re-organising in the living room and kitchen, so the files I need to do the cat website and the novel and keep up to date with my finances are much more easily accessible, plus thats created a lot of space in my bookcase, which is always good.

    And as to the rest:
    - got to answer an email
    - need to go to the supermarket (and I have a £5 voucher from my last shop to spend :) ).
    - tell the builder to go ahead - tho I need to investigate what it means when he says the quote is dependent on the work being carried out "in continuity" - most builders are only too glad to have a client who's happy for them to pop in for a couple of days here and there, lets them get on with the big jobs.
    - check out the trading for a little bit, haven't been able to think about it for ages between being ill, recuperating and doing my accounts and the aftermath.
    - work on the cat website after the supermarket trip - some of that will be scanning, so I'll also be tidying up the dratted office ...

    That'll do!
