in Credit cards
Hi all.....
Last year i booked a holiday for this summer for my partner and i.
Sadly she is poorly and its likely that we'll not be going.
Anyway i paid the deposit on my debit card which i understand and accept is non refundable. The remaining money was to be paid on departure from the accommodation.
Assuming we are unable to attend,i was wondering if its likely the hotel would try and debit my account?
In addition,my card numbers would have changed by then because i'm due a new debit card.........any thoughts.
Thankyou in advance.

I would look at the terms of the booking and see whether you are able to cancel and not need to pay anything further. That would be the best option rather than waiting to see if they will try to take the funds from you.
Also the terms of the booking may tell you whether they will try to take funds from the previous bank card given and whether you have authorised a CPA.
Even if they don't/can't take the funds from your bank card if you don't cancel it you'd still legally owe the money and they'd still be able to chase you for the remaining balance.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Did you book direct with the hotel or through a third party?
Most hotels these days offer fee free cancellation up to 48 hours before the date.
If its a reputable company i cant imagine they would take anymore than the deposit.0 -
Thankyou.........
The said accommodation is a public house in the middle of nowhere(hiking holiday),booked basically via email which stated the deposit is non refundable..........which i paid over the telephone to the landlord.
As i say i accept I've lost the deposit, the rest was to be paid on departure.0 -
The fact you'll have changed debit card by then won't matter.
If the Landlord is in possession of your old details, and a payment (ie the deposit) has already been claimed from your old card number, then he can process another payment for the balance using those details...and this will find it's way onto your bank account as a debit.
Unless of course the T&Cs of the booking say he won't do that.
So, again, what are the T&Cs of the booking? And have you let the Landlord know you'd like to cancel yet?0
