gas bills confusion

Why is there any confusion? There are two different meter types - metric and imperial. Their meter units are different sizes. It takes one simple multiplication to convert the meter unit to kWhs. If tariffs were quoted in meter units then additional lists would be needed for each type. Why not just use the default unit - the kWh?
To save countless arguments - why are you charging me three times more/less than what I thought I would be paying - the tariff defaults to the common unit that everyone can use.0 -
The energy content of a given volume of petrol does not vary as much as it can vary for a given volume of gas.0
