Hi
We are relocating due to hubby's work to Chesterfield and I was hoping some of you lovely lot may live close enough to know some good areas to look at!
We have seen houses online in Wingerworth, Walton and Hasland which are possibles but its hard to get an idea of what an area is like!
We have a 3 year old so have an eye on schools, but would also like a park, shop etc to walk to. Just looking for a nice area with lots of families.
Any thoughts?

What's your price range (ish)? Are you looking for older or new properties?
We're in a new build in Bolsover, not near the council estate, plenty of new developments dotted around. It's about 15 minutes if that to Chesterfield.
Have you looked at Calow?
It all depends what you're looking for!0 -
I'm not far from Chesterfield.
It's like most places, there are nice areas and not so nice. Also, as I'm sure you know already, it's very close to the Peak District National Park and villages in the park tend to be expensive places to live.
I know it's wrong to generalise and over simplify but outside the park there's a mix of what you might call old fashioned 'chocolate box' villages, the typical English rural farming village and the not so pretty industrial/mining villages.
With no idea of budget it's difficult to make suggestions but you should do some online research then go and look at some places.
One thing you won't have to worry about is a park, you'll be in or on the edge of one of the most beautiful National Parks in the world.
What I would strongly advise you do is, once you find somewhere you like, is to come up during the week and check journey times to work at the time you'll be traveling. It might look easy on the map but roads, even A roads, can be narrow and winding with few places to overtake and they can be busy in the rush hours, especially. Even more so in the spring, summer and autumn when there are tourists, walkers, caravans etc. as well as locals on them.
It's a lovely area to live in.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

They are all nice areas BUT schools for Walton children (infant/junior)are some distance from Walton itself. Two nice schools in Wingerworth. All three areas you mention have parks. AFAIK they operate buses from Walton to Old Hall School (juniors) - that's how far it is! They never built a school in Walton itself, although at the 'bottom' of Walton there is Whitecotes school.
Huge park in Hasland; definitely lots of local shops there, but not an area I'm overly familiar with.
If you do visit the area try and arrange to look round the schools you are interested in.

I work in Dronfield which is just north of Chesterfield and is really nice; as Mr Toad says it depends on budget, Dronfield can be a bit £££ and also where your hubby will be working
Good luck:heart2:Married my Mr White on 24th June 2011:heart2:0 -

Thanks for all your comments - will be going up in a couple of weeks to explore!

I was in Dronfield on Tuesday, taking the memsahib to the dentist, she wasn't sure she'd fell like driving home afterwards. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
I relocated up to Chesterfield outskirts last summer to be with my OH (who already lived here), we live in a small parish on the outskirts.
The local estate agents are wonderful, for most of our house hunting we used Wilkins Vardy who never got sick of seeing us at showings. The local solicitors we used were also brilliant.
Don't listen to the local outdated view of certain areas. Research thoroughly wherever you look at and trust your gut instinct
Even 18 months on people pre-judge where we live, I just laugh at their ignorance. It's quiet, safe and a lovely area to live in.
Everywhere has it's downfalls but overall there's far more good to outweigh it. I certainly wouldn't move back down South0 -
I live in Chesterfield - if you want to PM me I can offer some help :-)0

I grew up in Hasland and can definitely recommend it!
The schools are lovely from what I remember of attending them and I grew up on Challands Way which is on the estate next to the park with lots of little cul de sacs for children to play in safely.
Also the village itself has lots of little shops but it very close to Chesterfield Town Centre, I think we even used to walk into town sometimes!
Your budget should get you a nice 4 bed on that estate.
For example, this one is on the cul de sac next to the house I grew up in:
