It is interesting how when PS+ was a standalone product from online play it made sense as you could take it or leave it, now its a forced rental system where you don't get to pick the games and you can't play online without it (PS4 only of course).

There is much better value on PC, free online and then pickup said games in steam sales/humble bundles but that is a different beast I admit.

I am interested if Microsoft will respond, as said I can see the difference but the general public can't so maybe they should just switch to the rental model too and cut licensing fees and get more games out there.

Nobody is holding a gun to my head forcing me to subscribe to PS+

You cannot compare Steam with Live / PS+ - in that case you really are comparing apples and oranges.

I agree to compare PC/steam/humble bundle is apples and oranges hence my comment its a different beast, but it does offer better value in relative terms.

My point with PS+, you are correct nobody is forcing you to take it on the PS3/Vita, but you are more of less forced on the PS4 (ie if you want to play online) to which many would argue both consoles aren't much use unless online, I know this isn't an exact rule as I have a 360 without gold membership.

So on PS4 if you want to play online you are forced to pay for rentals you may not want.

Yeah, I agree - I mean I never play online (think I did once on the original Xbox on a Christmas Day over a decade ago with Unreal Tournament) but have always been a Live subscriber for over ten years, long before the 360 came along.

With PS4 (and my Vita, dont use the PS3 anymore) my PS+ sub is paid up until December 24th, 2016 so I am quite safe there and if something is on the store that I dont want (for example its Dont Starve at the minute) then I wont download it.

might be old games that are free but just a reminder that these are still available:

    happy wars
    spartacus legends
    ascend hand of kul
    harms way
    doritos crash course

I know doritos crash course is free for non gold users, are the others too?

There's also that jewel based game. Can't remember it's name though.
