Moving house & Virgin Media Arggghh

I just rang up virgin to say we were moving on saturday so could they disconnect us and reconnect to the new house. Everything was surprising simple (I should have been worried!) I got a reconnection slot on Monday morning, great. Went to ring DH up who is ill at home and guess what the phone doesn't work!

After 1.5 hours back on the phone to virgin (I have a very tolerant and understanding boss) and being passed from dept to dept being told firstly it's a coincindental fault on the line, I'm finally told the truth : that there is a "glitch" which disconnects your phone immediately the request is put in regardless of the fact that it's for a date in the future. Even better is the fact they can't reconnect me for the next 48 hours (so what's the point!) and if they do reconnect me, they will cancel the reconnection at the new house! Argghhhhhhh!

So till Saturday we are phoneless, which is a real pain as we are in the process of trying to exchange, but the solicitors keep going on holiday/training/hiding in cupboards etc... so we have been trying to exchange since last wednesday! Virgin did offer to credit our account, but when I asked whether the credit would cover all the fees if the sale falls through they said it wouldn't funnily enough!

Luckily it seems that we have managed to exchange this morning, so we shouldn't really need the phone too much now. Complete on Friday and move out on Saturday! Roll on Sunday!

Strange....my mum just moved house and had no problems. She called them up a week before to tell them and ask to be disconnected on the Friday and reconnected asap in the new house. Everything went to plan and they disconnected TV/BB/Phone on the Friday morning and it was all re-connected and working properly by Saturday lunchtime.

I think though that when moving house its to be expected that you might lose phone/internet/TV for a couple of days, I've always allowed for that anyway! I always give my mobile number to removals/agents/anyone-else-who-might-need-to-contact-me and reccomend they use that in the weeks before/after moving just in case.

I was told it was a glitch that only happens to some accounts. We've been with them for years and years, so maybe it's only very old accounts that are suspect!
We've still got broadband and the telly, the problem is only with the phone. How did your mum get reconnected on a Saturday, or was the line already in the new house? I was told that they can't install a line on a weekend.

The line was already there, it was just a case of having an engineer attend the house and the cabinet to activate and connect everything up.
