Hi all
Bit of oddity for you to ponder over.
When I connect to this t'interweb-net-thingy using Tiscali broadband, the first time I do the homepage takes around a minute to load up. After that everything is fine.
I can open new tabs, view different web pages, etc with no problems, it's just the first time I connect to the internet after disconnecting.
Anyone any ideas?

Are you actually connecting/disconnecting to the internet or do you have a router that's permanently connected?"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

No router, just a modem on a braodband connection.
It's only been happening recently, and the only thing I've added is System Mechanic 6, which I believe I added after this problem started anyway.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

Do you flush your DNS in between connections?
And does it take "a minute" to load the first page or just longer than usual? If yes, I'd say it's contacting the DNS and caching first time around.0 -
Sorry Cricri, you've lost me.
What do you mean by flushing DNS?
If you mean clearing out all cached pages then yes, but I've always done that anyway.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

The DNS is the Domain Name System. Basically, when you type www.google.com, it needs to know what IP it is, and that's what the DNS is for.
If I switch off computer and modem, then for me to it takes a little while for the first pas, but nowhere near a minute. 10 seconds maybe? And after that, yes, it's quick as well.0 -
On my system, the computer is switched off when not in use and I use a modem not a router.
I have disabled autocomplete and after each session on the net, I used to run Tune-Up Utilities (now using System Mechanic 6) to clear out all cookies, internet files and history.
As I'm on IE7 I also use the "Delete browsing history" option under the Tools menu.
This has only recently started happening and I can't remember adding any software/hardware recently (apart from updating my Nero).:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
