Sorry Purples, but I also think that it's their choice as to what type of comp they choose to run. I don't think it's right to try to pressure them to change the comp, on the basis that some might cheat. If people cheat, then that's what should be reported/tackled. Otherwise you might as well say that driving should be banned, because some people speed.

But it's ok to badger them about voting comps? Both these type of comps "can" be abused so why pick on one and not the other.

It seems peeps on here like to pick and choose, chop and change to whatever suits them at the time...............:rotfl::rotfl::D

    I couldn't care either way btw ;)

I wouldn't approve of badgering a comp host over any of these things. However, for me there is a clear difference between the two comps. 'Vote for me' comps are flawed and unfair. People win because they nag people to vote, not because they produce the best pic, poem or whatever. So the stated criteria for winning bears no actual relation to winning.

That is very different to trying to pressure a comp host in case a few people try to cheat. That should be dealt with differently, by tackling the cheating behaviour.

It definitely is not because of chopping and changing to suit myself. I genuinely see these differently. You may see it differently again, of course, and that's also fine.

And BTW, neither type affects me me, because I don't enter for either of them.

This is just what I wanted to say but couldn't think how to phrase:T

I am useless at games so never enter those comps. Funnily enough, I am never asked for votes any more since I decided to un-friend anyone who asked.

Maybe they just are good at skill games tho? It really is not that different from another skill comp ie a tiebreaker or a poem/photo comp

I wasn't having a go at you personally hence not quoting you ;)
It's the general consensus (sp) on MSE, there's never one rule followed for anything,

Tis the same when some people ask for votes here instead of on the referrers board, some are given short shrift but others are given votes and good luck before being sent to the other board.

Brill - I'm going to remember that next time someone asks me.

Daphne - no prob. I was explaining more than offended - honest :D

Know what you mean re people responding differently, but we are a contradictory species by nature. No we're not! Yes we are!

For example, we're less likely to moan at someone we know and like. More likely to moan if we feel they flouted a rule deliberately rather than innocently, and so on. I know I've done that myself - voted for someone who asked for it, then hated myself for doing that. From now on I plan to treat them all with equal contempt ;)
