I don't understand what you concern is?
id theft? or something else?
If you tell us then perhaps we can help.
I do actually have a free suggestion if you are worried about someone opening a credit account in your name, but first you need to explain what your concern is because it's not clear to me.
Why can't you send it tracked?
Most high streets have shops where you can pay for photocopies.
Actually at home we do it with a scanner and a printer, so maybe ask your friends and family.
Nothing stopping you afterwards making a formal complaint and asking them to repay the small amount you spent on postage/photocopies.
Not clear what your concern is to be honest.0 -
I guess it's the militant in me piping up :-)
I've been randomly chosen (never get randonly chosen to win holidays etc...). I need to go out of my way to ensure that these documents are sent securely to their destination. They're not a mandatory requirement for insurance. There's risk they can go astray in the post and then sit on yet another system that could be compromised. But if I don't jump through the hoops, they'll cancel my policy and charge me £55 for it.
But anyway, as always, it's better to bow your head, shut up and do it.
No disrespect to anyone here, your input is appreciated. Just seemed very strange as I've never had this in all the years of getting car insurance, and neither have my friends, some of whom are currently insured with this company.0 -
If you do a search you'll see you aren't being picked on.
There are lots of comments about this growing practice on MSE and on the net.
It's for all our benefit!0 -

I guess his concern is that he's being forced to provide information that in one instance at least is completely unrelated to his policy.
Had this "requirement" been pointed out at the point of sale then he could have made an informed decision so he's also unhappy that it's been sprung on him only once the policy has started.0 -
If you have nothing to hide then send them the information. There is nothing you have that didnt already endure a journey through the postal system. Totally unsecured.
What will someone do with a copy of your licence and logbook? Easier to apply to the DVLA for a change of address and get a genuine one.
1st time for me also. Not the V5C but licence and mileage requested.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Why did you refuse to send copies ? Take a photo of each document and email them.0

that in one instance at least is completely unrelated to his policy
but quite commonly requested for proof of address.Had this "requirement" been pointed out at the point of sale
I would guess it's in the Ts&Cs.
Anyway I didn't ask to argue or anything like that, I asked in case we might be help on his concerns such as pointing to free id protection (I'm referrring to a thumbprint and notice on the credit file).0 -

Giving your thumbprint to your motor insurer looks an unnecessary and unacceptable way to prove your ID.
What planet you on?0 -
Giving your thumbprint to your motor insurer

Which one are you on?0 -
How do you put your thumbprint on your credit file? (How is it free?)
Where do you get the file from?
Once you have put a print down, how do insurers know you are who you say you are???
How come you got a free one (they cost £10.75 on that link you spammed us with - are you involved selling inkless thumb print pads?)0
