Recovering previous saved word doc -vista

Hi again

I have worked for days on a word document and have been very good at saving regulaly and to a disk ( after previous backup neglect on my part !). Anyway, I saved and saved and finally finished it and when I went to use the document today, I find that what has been saved is only about half of what should have been. I cannot understand where the rest of the doc is. I looked up the helppages and have searched with the various extensions that they suggest with no joy. The autorecover panes don't have any of the more recent saves either. Actual backup discs of full system don't help either as I do that once a week and the document was worked on after the last full back up.
Is there any chance I can get back this information. I am beginning to think I imagined completing the blooming thing. I am using windows vista.

Any help will be most gratefully received, as always.
