Rumours abound that MS are set to pull Windows 8 as it has been a bit of a failure in the market place....to be replaced wqith Windows 9 in 2015.
Was it just too innovative/out there for the average consumer or business user or was it really a dogs dinner of an OS?
Will an announcement of a new OS so soon stall desktop sales this year? Can't see peaople struggling with W8 only to find next years version reverts to an XP style set-up.

Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.

my BIL has 8.1 he says its good OS for what it is, when it came out it was not completely user friendly, and by all means takes some getting used to. but my BIL likes its start up speeds, and ease of reinstallation if he breaks it. he did say he would never use it for a business.
my observation of the OS was it is over cluttered with things I wouldn't use and don't need I would spend more time in desktop mode than in app mode and because of this I haven't upgraded to 8.1 because win7 is easily simplified for me to do what I need things to do.0 -
Normal cycle for recent OS's
Vista - 2006
7 - 2009
8 - 2012
9 - 20150 -

I got it for a number of reasons, one of which was the better SSD support - once I'd installed start8 (which cost $4) it is like a better version of 7, I never see or go to metro mode, it boots directly to desktop and stays there.0 -
I rather like Windows 8 and 8.1 several friends and family have got it as a result of buying new machines and as their first port of call for support, i.e. free support, I've had to get to grips with it.
There has been a bit of "I don't like the change" moaning but it was soon overcome. For those that use a PC for email, browsing and storing digital pictures with no interest in anything else it can be the perfect OS for those with no interest in what goes on behind the scenes.
I've modified the Metro screen on several so that it only shows the four or five programs that they use and they love the simplicity once all the other extraneous stuff that they found confusing is taken away. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
8.1 is near enough 7 now..
I dont use the "metro" screen as all my shortcuts to the programs I use are on my desktop, I dont remember the last time I even see the metro screen as it logs now straight into the desktop.0 -
Windows 8 is a great operating system. Yup, I've said it. Put my reputation on the line.
If you read all the negative press about Win 8, it's the metro UI. Now, you're not forced to use it. Go to the desktop, stay in the desktop, and have fun. However, let's just dream for a moment. Lets dream of a day you come home from work, and your TV, Mobile, Tablet, Computer, Fridge, Worktop and all devices are running the same OS, with all your data on and available, with a consistent interface.
The problem is some are touch screen, some are mouse keyboard, some are small, some are big, so what's needed is a potential interface that could be used across all these devices. That's where the "tiles" come in. On my Windows 8 phone, they're fantastic and I much prefer it to iOS and Android, but indeed, on my desktop they're redundant and I stick to the desktop...
The future is having consistency across devices, and interoperability. Windows 8 is a stepping stone in the right direction, and the only company that can make such a stepping stone unless Google take a serious crack at the OS market (Not ChromeOS...)
Windows 9 will be a development upon this, but I don't doubt it will still have a consistent interface, and I'm happy about that... Consistency is good!!![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

One of 2 things:
1) It will be upgraded to W9
2) It will stay on as W8 but will continue to be updated as Windows 8
Depends on whether it's the same arcitecture etc..
Basically will work the same way as iOS. When iOS7 came out, some devices could upgrade from 6, and older devices couldn't...[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."
