Applying tax disc with part of my V5C missing

Hi,

I need to apply for a new tax disc for my car. I somehow managed to misplace the first page of the V5C so I only have the 2nd page with me. I also need to change my address. Do you know if can go into the post office with a printoff of my insurance and this V5C to get a new taxdisc ? Or do they need the complete form?

Also, any ideas how long it takes for a new V5C to arrive?

Do I need to bring in my old tax disc to get a new one or do I only need the things mentioned above ?

Cheers!

You don't need the V5C to get a tax disc.

You can go to the Post Office with the renewal notice that you received in the post - along with the insurance certificate and the MOT if it needs one.

You should also apply to the DVLA for a replacement V5C
  • I don't have a renewal notice as I changed my address so I guess I can just use my V5C/2 based on what the renewal form seems to suggest.

You no longer need to show proof of insurance and MOT at a post office, its all done through the system.

V5C is only valid for two months after buying the vehicle so they may not accept this for taxing (unless you tell them you bought it within two months, that's if they ask you) Otherwise you will need to apply directly with DVLA.

You will need to apply for a new V5, you can get the form at the Post Office.

Just do it online. Takes 5 minutes, they do the checks online, and you get your tax disc in the post in about 5 days.

I don't think the OP can do it online as it seems that he/she has moved address and the V5C and the renewal notice are in the old address, so the tax will be sent there.

I think applying for a new V5c in the correct address and then getting tax will be the way to go. But it might be worth ringing the DVLA for advice on getting tax in the meantime.
