How long before experian correct file?

We are about to apply for a mortgage and upon checking our credit files noticed there was a mistake from orange, after a week of stressful phone calls and emails, I have spoken to them and they've confirmed the mistake via email and said the information of late payments will be corrected and replaced with 0 when they next update their files to the agencies but this isn't until the 10th of next month. They said if it was more urgent I should contact the agencies direct.
I signed up to experian (who is who our future mortgage company use to credit check) today and spoke to a very helpful guy who took the details and said he'd raise it with orange, but then quoted me 4 weeks too! I've since forwarded the email from orange which details it will be removed from my file at the next update, but we really can't wait a month before applying for the mortgage as it'll put our chain at risk.
Does anyone have experience at how quickly these things actually happen? Are they saying 4 weeks just to cover their bum?
Thanks!
