Refused Tesco credit card

I've been out of debt for around 7 years now.
At that time I paid off 3 credit cards all at a reduced amount by agreement with all 3 debtors
one of them was Tesco.
I wanted a new tesco card mainly to get double points when using it to shop at with them
Since my debts have long been cancelled out and my finances are in good standing. Monthly payments on my existing Halifax card always paid in full.
I have an overdraft facility with Halifax but because I never needed to make use of it they reduced it by more than half.
I really thought that after all this time it would be safe to apply to Tesco
The answer came back that I was refused because of results from a redit reference agency
Can anyone tell me which agency Tesco uses and what is their minimum criteria for acceptance. I'd like to find out why I was refused and prepare myself for a second attempt in 6 months from now

I was refused by Tesco a few months ago, despite having a blemish-free record. The only reason I can think it must have been is that my other credit card was near its limit at that point.0

Am I correct that you still owe Tesco money from when you previously had a credit card with them?
If so surely that is the reason they refused you.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0 -

Agree, there's nothing to stop a lender having a black list of customers.0 -
Yup i would also say that it is because you had a debt with them in the past that you could not pay resulting in an agreement in a lower amount.
Put it this way. If you lent me money and some way through the agreement i told you i could not afford to pay you the agreed amount so then started paying you less you would not be best pleased with me.
Would you lend me money again?
Although a very simplistic example the same kind of rules apply here. Tesco due to their own information they hold on you dont want to lend you money as you are now deemed as a risk regardless of how long ago it was.0 -
I know that there is a possibility that Tesco blacklisted me
And no I am no longer in debt to Tesco or anyone else for that matter. I haven't been for over 7 years.
No one has really answered my question

When I have that answer I can apply for a credit report to see if they hold any information that is no longer relevent and get it adjusted0 -
Best option would be to apply for your credit reports from all 3 agencies. That way you can see which file(s) they search this time and what information they saw. And the total cost would only be £4. If you think there may be inaccurate data on your files then it makes sense to check them all anyway.
Whether you will be able to work out why they declined you by looking at your credit reports probably depends on what shows.
Tesco are reportedly one of the harder CCs to get accepted for. Instead of applying again with them have you considered trying another bank.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

I don't really need a credit card as such. I have had a halifax CC for years and I'm quite happy with it
The only reason I wanted a Tesco one was to get double points when shopping with them. Nothing more0 -

I somehow admire your chutzpah.
You've done the dirt on Tesco (and two other cards), by paying only a certain percentage of what you owed. Why would they welcome you back with open arms? That same thing might happen again a couple of years down the road.

I answered your question a bit further up. They more than likely declined you due to the problems you had with them in the past. Im not saying you still owe money but they are unlikely to lend you more due to this. Their computer system is probably set to auto decline you due to your owld account on the their systems.
Anyway in answer to your question (without taking in to account the rest), when i applied for my Tesco credit Card the search showed up on both Experian and Equifax reports.
Hope this helps0 -
Amex is another one who'll hold a grudge on ex customers if they got stitched up."You know when it's cold outside when you go outside and it's cold"0
