I need my credit file from 12 years ago!?

Hi there, Experian have told me that they and equinox keep just six years of personal info on file. I am trying to locate details from further back up to 12 years in fact. Reason being, I sold my house in 2002 and some months later using the 14k profit I made, I paid off two loans which I remember definitely having PPI on them. Naturally I could be due a large refund claim back, problem is, no paperwork or recollection of who these companies were as it was so long ago and have had so many addresses and loans since.

So a credit file stretching back further, say, 10 to 12 years will surely give me the info I need? Does such a thing exist?

I have sent a SAR with £10 to Barclays to see if they can provide me with bank statements from that time that may reveal DD details for the loans but am not hopeful!

Any suggestions, guys? Thanks for reading x

I've never heard of credit files dating back more than 6 years and it is unlikely that Barclays will have statements going back that far.

No the credit reference agencies do not hold data from that long ago.

And your bank may well not be able to provide statements from so long ago.

For a claim that PPI was missold on a loan paid off 12 years ago you need to have your own paperwork to demonstrate that you did have a loan from them, that you had how much PPI, how you were charged (and say why you believe it was missold).

The lender almost certainly won't have records of your loan from so long ago even if you did know who you borrowed from.

  • You could try contacting the lender, but as Tixy says, 12 years is a long time, they probably have shredded all data from back then.

I am writing to request a copy of my original loan/credit agreement with you. If the original loan/credit agreement does not include details of the insurance added to the account, such as the number and cost of any monthly payments or any lump sum fees and interest charges applicable to this fee, please attach or advise how I can get access to this information.
I look forward to your response within 40 days, as is obliged under section 77 & 78 of the Data Protection Act 1998. If not I shall seek remedy from the Information Commissioner.
    Yours faithfully
