Hi
Had a problem with my car- it leaked called a mobile mechanic to have a look he said it was the gasket, I questioned how but he assured me it was definitely the gasket so I said fix it to the tune of £522, anyway car is still leaking. Got him on the phone eventually he said car was working when he left it so basically not his problem. I explained he hadn't fixed it but we were just going round and round and getting nowhere. Have since discovered he is a bit of a con man my question is should I go to the police can they do anything or report him to trading standards. He is self employed.

Have you got a receipt.Be happy...;)0

What was/is leaking? I hope we're at least talking about something leaking out of the engine bay rather than water getting in somewhere...
Was it the head gasket you paid to have fixed/replaced?
I'd contact trading standards and see what they have to say.0 -
Goto a reputable garage and get the problem diagnosed.
Police wont be interested. He did steal your money. You say he failed to do the work he says he did the work and you have another issue.
You could take him to court but the chance of getting your money back is probably slim.
Just tell everyone to avoid him. Lost future customers will hurt him more than anything.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Yes spacey2012 got a receipt but hes changed his number.
Contacted trading standards hes known to them already. They are building a case against him.
forgotmyname Yep trading standards explained the court thing have given up on that and my money.
Ultrasonic Rain water getting if from faulty seal. I paid for a gasket but I think he just removed it then replaced it.
Well ive learnt a very expensive lesson one I wont forget.
Thanks for your comments and be careful.0 -
Maybe cross post onto the consumer board and get some advice there. This is basically a consumer not a motoring problem.0

i) Phone him daily and ask when he's coming back to fix the car.
ii) Phone him and tell him he has 48 hours to turn up and start working on it or your taking him through small claims.
iii) Ask yourself why you called an unknown repairer, paid him so much and don't have decent contact details for him.0 -
