natwest default error

I have just applied for a re mortgage and was amazed to find I had a default on my credit report which has lead to being denied the mortgage.
on searching my report I found it to be a default on my current mortgage 10 months ago.
After cross checking bank statements I contacted NatWest and was told sorry that's our fault the payment was made but due to something at NatWest end it didn't show up.
Person told me it would be removed within 3 days from NatWest but wouldn't be removed until next month from credit report.
Do I have a case for compensation as this was not my fault yet I have missed out on my mortgage deal and have left unwanted credit searches etc.

You may not have lost your mortgage deal. Go back to the lender and explain the situation. Get them to put the application on hold pending your record being corrected.
As for compensation, a formal complaint may get you a token payment and an apology. If you want more than that you will have to be able to prove that NatWest were at fault and substantiate your material losses.0 -
there is no doubt that NatWest is at fault as they have admitted it.i have spoken to mortgage broker and explained but they are not able to help unless the default is taken off.typical computer data not responding to something off the normal track I suppose.0

Let this be a lesson that you should check your credit files well in advance of any important applications so that you have time to resolve errors.
Don't just assume all will be okay.
You should check your other two files if you haven't already. What will your verse be?

do you work for credit report company? what you are saying is that paying bills on time is my fault because I don't pay £15.00 a month to a site to tell me the bank has screwed up.the only lesson ive learnt is don't trust anything to do with banks or financial companies.0

It was a few years ago, but I received £750.00 compensation from Lloyds TSB (credit card) due to an incorrect default on my credit file.
I wrote asking them for £1k compensation, and they sent a cheque for £750.00 which I accepted.
And the thing is, I hadn't really (fortunately) been inconvenienced by the incorrect default - if I'd lost out on a mortgage like the o/p I'd be absolutely raging.0
