Work refusing holiday dates

Does he get leave approved in the main school holidays - Christmas/Easter/summer? Is it just the half-terms he has a problem with?
The only holiday he is allowed is the summer & we could never afford to go away then. We don't want all dates approved, just one week every other year, I think that's a fair ask.Christmas Crazy :rotfl:

He has questioned it before but he is never taken seriously, hence getting a union rep involved.
He is now debating asking for a headed letter stating that they will not allow him time off under any circumstances so I can take these into the schools.
I only wanted a little break as hadn't had one for a while, I can't believe how difficult it is now
What answer do they have for the lady being able to somehow book ahead of everyone else?
Asking for that letter is a good idea to show the school. At least your holiday will be cheaper if you go the week before or after a half term.0 -
So unfair, i think getting the union rep involved is a good idea. Rules are rules so this lady should have to abide by them like everyone else, rather than jt just being assumed that she gets the time off. However, i get the feeling that this is one if those situations where this lady has been there for ages and rules the roost??0

Be careful- look on BBC news Uk today - a couple were fined £360 for taking a holiday in term time - now risen to over £900 as they refused to pay. I'm not saying the reasons were the same but parents DO get fined its not just a warning. You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0

Is it possible that the ladies contract says she has school holidays off?0

How do you know this? Is this what his union is telling him? What else has he done to resolve this? What conversations has he had with his employer?
How is this woman able to book holidays 'forever'? At most workplaces you can only book within the leave period, typically a year."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Sorry people I have had a big breakdown, this coming on top of everything else has left me a complete mess, I can barely see the screen through tears.
Don't worry it's not this in particular I'm upset over, it's been a horrific day & to have him come home with this I've just broken to bits.
Thank you so much for all your questions and answers, when I'm in a better frame of mind I will think about this a lot more.
Will reply when he is home from work tomorrow and will let you know what the next step has been.
Thank you all again xxxChristmas Crazy :rotfl:

Does this mean that she is entitled to 6 weeks holiday a year (assuming she is taking none at all in the summer)?
Are you sure it is a case that she books every single school holidays, or is it that she books them in advance whilst your husband choose more randomly and by then it is already booked?
I struggle to believe that they would allow someone to take every single holidays off (unless she is on a different contract) years in advance, if they believed that your husband also wanted to take the same holidays.
Has it ever raise a grievance before if that's been the case for years now?0 -
I think I would have a word with my boss and explain that the half terms are the only time you can get away as a family, that you don't mind which half term, but could you please have three days together in one of them.
That would give them six (?) weeks to choose from - surely they must be able to agree to three days during one of them.Mortgage when started: £330,995
