Hello all - My wife has a mini isa with the abbey and a cheque for quite a large amount has appeared on her statement as being paid in . It was back in december when it was paid in and I was just wondering what we should do . I said just keep it in there for the moment and see what happens . Any ideas or solutions will be gratefully recieved

I don't think you should keep quiet about it. Suggest you tell Abbey that this transaction seems to be a mistake (Do ensure that it isn't a mysterious benefactor who's decided to gift her the money), and that the credit seems to have happened erroneously. Not only is it legally incorrect to hang on to money that isn't rightfully yours, it is not fair on the person whose account should have been credited in the first place either. It's always the grass that suffers, irrespective of whether the elephants are fighting or making love !!!0 -
personally i would leave it in your account and wait till something comes up, at least you earn the interest of 0.1% on it, other than that all that will happen is abbey will hold it in suspense and try and figure it out.0

Not a good idea. The OP's wife is aware that this is not her money and she make abbey aware of it.
Quite apart from the legalities, how would you feel if it was your money in the wrong account.0 -

Unless this is pointed out to Abbey they are unlikely to figure anything out. The money is somone else's who may be in turmoil right now! Just put the shoe on the other foot.HLK

contact Abbey and tell them, they will realise eventually and when the real owner of this money realises Abbey will take it back and will alos take any interest you have earned on it.TOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T0

obviously she is aware of it legally she can still claim she hasnt checked her statement, stop talking rubbish abbey can trace the transactions. The only thing that will happen is abbey will take the money hold on to it if no one comes forward keep it.Not a good idea.
