switching to halifax

This forum isn't the best at sub forums so I have no idea were to stick this thread.

im with Barclays and the Halifax £100 switch fee and £5 a month is to good to miss, I don't want to close my Barclays account though, you never know, in 6 months I may want to move back;)

now if I go into halifax will I still get the £100 if I open the account my self and move across all my income and just a select few direct debts or does the £100 fee only apply if you use the switch service which would also close my barlcyas account, I just cant hold out any more on missing free money.

    According to this infor http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/compare-best-bank-accounts#halifax
the £100 bonus is for using the switching service.
and you'll get a £100 bonus, if you use its switching service to transfer two or more direct debits and close your old account.

but I wounder if you can use the switching service once you open an account? open the account and sort out my income details at work then use the switching service to swap over the DD's and allow it to close the Barclays if need be.

im going to go into my local branch and ask to talk to somebody in detail about it before swapping

its fine to open a new account somewhere then switch it over to halifax, just make sure you have something to actually switch, ideally setting up your 2 DD's then switching.

Thats what i did, the new account was only open a month before being switched

In terms of credit rating, young accounts seem to be frowned upon by lenders, who would prefer you to stay with the same bank forever.
