Can you Believe What the Council Tell you?

We are in the process of moving house and on Friday I rang our local council to see if the searches had been requested on our house yet. They said they hadn't received a request for a search. The thing is though we've had a letter from our buyer's solicitor asking about a house extension we had in 1994. How would they know about this if they hadn't put the searches into motion?
Im just wondering if it depends on who you get on the phone at the council as to what you get told!

Is there a mention of this extension on your property details that you gave to your EA?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
I can't remember if I mentioned it on any details! I seemed to have filled in that many bits of paper! Perhaps this is how they know!0

Well, Ive contacted the council and they told me the search has been done and completed on the property we are selling and about to be done on the one we are buying. When I rang last week I was told that they hadn't had a search requested on the one we are buying. Im sure it couldn't have been requested and completed in less than one week? The lady I spoke to last week must have been wrong!0

Ask the solicitor if they used a search agency or direct to the council. If they use a search agency then the council wouldn't see an application from your solicitors.
I had a similar problem a few weeks ago, the solicitors where saying that the delay in getting my searches back was due to the council when I phoned the council they had no record of a search being carried out. My solicitor then decided to tell me that they where not applying direct to the council but through a search agency.0
