Very.co.uk faulty laptop.

I need a little advice regarding an acer laptop that I bought for my son for christmas.
I bought the laptop from Very in September and opened it to check it seemed ok when it arrived. We didn't use it until christmas and after about 2 weeks of use it developed a fault where it either won't load or when it does load it turns off.
We have contacted Very and asked to return the item to them, and we asked for a refund as we weren't happy with the quality and it definitely had not lasted long enough we also did not want to risk the fault happening again.
Very told me to call Acer, I explained that I would rather deal with them, but they were adamant I call Acer. I called them and they told me about the repair service and also give me an authorisation number to give to very to see if they would use this to refund instead.
I have since checked again with Very and they are very rude, unhelpful and defensive, keep telling me to go to Acer for a repair and that they are fulfilling their statutory right by doing this and I am not eligible to request a refund. My understanding is I should deal with Very directly.
If anyone can, I'd like some advice on what my rights are here and what I can do going forward. I would understand if the only option was a repair and I am in the wrong requesting a refund.
Thanks

I have the same questions about an Asus laptop I bought online from Currys in July. It'a already been back to Asus for a repair and come back still unable to turn on. Currys tell me they have no responsibility and that I have to go back to Asus. I want a refund now as I've given them the chance to repair it. I'd like to know what my right are.0
