We had a letter way back last year from Marlin Financial Services, saying we owed egg now Barclays £1725, we responded with a letter saying the account was statue barred, they spent a long time investigating, and sent a piece of paper, with my husbands name, and the date some money was paid. I requested that they provided evidence of the account the money was paid from. Which they haven't been able to do. We heard nothing for a while, then the other week a letter arrived from them saying the debt had been passed to them??? I wrote to them telling them they were already investigating the account, and we were still waiting for evidence to prove the debt was ours. Today we received another letter telling us the bank hasn't been able to provide them with details of the account the money was paid from, and have asked us to request this from the bank direct to obtain the information they need to prove we owe the money?? How can we provide the bank details if we don't know them? It says please kindly contact the bank to ascertain where the payment was made from and forward this, with a view to bring the matter to a close. Any advise would be gratefully received.

I would either ignore them until they send some evidence to suggest the debt is not statute barred or you may send them the follow up letter as per this link - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2606811 (post 4).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0

They need to prove you owe it and paid/acknowledged within the last 6 years.
They expect you to prove it for them. Just ignore and repeat what you already told them. As far as you are concerned its statute barred. No payments in the last 6 years.
If they can prove otherwise then do write back.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Dear Old statute debt file buyers .
You were asked to prove this "alleged" payment and you have been unable to do so, this in our terms and conditions is construed as lacking proof of claim.
The matter has now been closed.
No further correspondence shall be entered upon.
Thank you for your enquiry.Be happy...;)0 -

Surely your husband knows whether or not he received over a £1000 from Barclaycard without repaying it?
If he claims he never incurred the debt, then forget about statute barred; he should simply deny he owes the money claimed (and/or any money at all if true)0
