Can anyone help me with my rights

Hi, i have 2 issues the first is with some straightners that have stopped working i think its a conection in the wire. I bought them from argos and i think they have gone over the year warranty but they have a 5 year guarantee with the manufacture so am i still in my rights to take them back to the shop or do i have to send them to the manufacturer.
My second issue is with our 3 piece suite, we bought it from glasswells just over 2 1/2 years ago and the leather has worn away to leave a lighter colour and also it has craked and some bits of leather in the crease of the sofa have come away its not what i would of expected from glasswells. I would be really grateful if someone could tell me what my rights are please before i make myself look stupid when i go and make a complaint.
Many thanks

With the straighteners you have 2 options.
    1) Take it up with the retailer as a SOGA issue. They may exchange without question (unlikely) or you would have to supply an independent report as to the fault being inherent. They may then exchange, repair or refund, possibly partially, whichever is least costly to them.
    2) Take advantage of the manufacturers 5 year warranty which may impose conditions on registration at time of purchase and responsibility for postage costs.

Again with the suite you need to speak to the retailer and tell them politely that you believe the suite has not lasted a reasonable amount of time and what action you would like them to take. From their answer to that you then choose the next course of action.
