ovo electricity.
Hi we are moving to a house that has oil, and electric supplied by ovo, they have economy 7. They don`t have storage heaters but use their appliances during the night. I have not heard of ovo before and don`t know too much about economy 7 other than you get a cheaper night rate with a dearer day rate. As I only work part time and will be home probably 4 days out of 7 is it worth me staying on economy 7. I would not think that we would do our washing etc during the night also. Any advice would be welcome.

Unlikely that E7 will be cheaper without NSH's, but how is the water heated? If there is an immersion heater then that will heat the water overnight on E7 cheap rate. Typically you need to use around 30% of your total kWh off peak to make E7 pay, but it depends on usage and region. S hit the comp sites with your figures split for E7, and then again for single rate.
If you want to ditch E7 then you may have to pay for a meter change, usually around £60.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Hi macman, there is a immersion heater. From what they told me they use oil during the winter and then when summer arrives they turn the oil off and use electric. As I will be in during the day quite a bit I am thinking E7 might not be that cost effective.0

Depends what you are using-you can still be heating by oil if you want to in the daytime. You'll not be necessarily using any heating or hot water on peak rate, and that's what matters. I'll be cheaper to use the off peak electricity than oil, but if you use peak rate then the price goes up about 300%.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

So if I understand it right it would probably be better to use E7 during the night to heat the water for the day. But always use oil for heating. They do have an electric fire as a center peace but not used much. It was just that as I am home quite a bit during the day, lights kettle tv etc made me think about the dearer day rate. I have emailed ove for some advice but as yet nothing.0
