Carphone warehouse tablet

Hi everyone,

Back at the start of November i saw a deal from Carphone Warehouse regarding a tablet its was meant to be £99 but was half price £49 you had to pre order it and then it would be delivered during December. I decided to get it for my mum the tablet reviews were good and i thought i was on for a really good deal. At the start of December I received an email stating the supplier had let them down but they would send me a tablet of similar spec etc it was a binatone home surf as a replacement.

This tablet arrived 4 days before xmas so i wrapped it up and gave to my mum. She was happy with it as she hasnt had a tablet before but Ive had a look at it used it once and i am extremely unhappy with it. The screen has to be tilted to a certain angle so you can see whats happening on the screen, its extremely slow and tends to crash alot.

Ive contacted Carphone warehouse and they called me today to say they are sorry we arent happy with it but there is nothing they can do about because there is nothing wrong with it, which is true. Also as it was purchased 2 months ago so its beyond the refund stage. But i feel like ive been cheated with this and not happy that i can not return it. I know you get what you pay for but a £99 tablet should be better than a £50 tablet.

They have given me a complaints reference number and told me to contact trading standards.

I dont really know what to do now, I feel like i am wasting my time and their time if i put this complaint in. It arrived 4 days before xmas and was given as a gift so I didnt open it or turn it on to check, but even if i did turn it on and look before i gave it to her there would not have been enough time to get a refund and buy another one before xmas.

Did anyone else take this deal thinking they were getting a good tablet and got a !!!! one?

Any advice greatly received. :-)

You paid £49 and the owner of the tablet is happy.

There were a lot of tablets that came out a cheap prices and quite honestly they were cheap because they were junk. Things like speed, battery life and screen quality being the main ways to cut costs.

But even allowing for that it has to be fit for purpose. The speed is of little relevance, similarly having to tilt the screen (could that be down to the brightness not being turned up sufficiently?), but if it keeps crashing then maybe there is a fault and it could be worth pursuing.
