Bought dress off of ASOS, washed, dye has run and ruined my other clothes

Hi
I brought a dress off of Asos, it was an acid wash dress. The washing label says 'wash with similar colours' which I did using a 30 degree wash and sensitive powder/conditioner. I washed it and the colour has run into and ruined all of the load. I have advised them of this, and provided pictures of the spoiled items, some of which are streaky. I know it was the dress, because it was the only item which had not been washed before and because you can see the damage as you can see where the dye has run. I have also provided them with pictures of this. Despite four emails later of appalling customer care where they dont seem to care at all, I have been offered a 10 % discount and a refund for the dress-they have already admitted the dress is faulty-but nothing for the spoiled items even though I have advised that this is what I expect. The damage is at least £100 worth and I am really cross. I am unsure how to proceed.

    What do you want?

Compo? or them to fix the clothes?
  • I have asked for compensation, I haven't specified an amount as they haven't even acknowledged the other clothes despite that being my underlaying query. Its infuriating to say the least.

    So you want compo?

    How old were the clothes?
  • Yes.
The clothes were new-christmas presents infact-a jumper from topshop, my LBs Boden jumper and a Jasper Conran bodysuit but had been washed before. The dress I bought in the sales! Makes it more annoying as I've had barely any wear out of any of it!

I suppose you have receipts for all these?

Basically. They will put you back in the position if you never bought the dress. IE refund and you may struggle to get any compo from them.

May have to go down LBA etc route
  • No, because they were presents. I dont know what the LBA route is but thanks for the advice. If they put me in the position before I had the dress the clothes wouldnt be spoiled but doesnt seem to be anything I can do about it which is rubbish!

I know this does not help you but i always wash new clothes by hand for the first wash to make sure the clothes do not run. Even got it into my daughter's head to do this and it has saved a lot of heartache and clothes. She started to do that when she paid for clothes herself, ie cant afford to ruin any.

It's probably going to be hard to prove that you weren't at fault, and at least they are offering to refund the price of the dress. Try putting some Dylon Colour Run Remover in with the stained clothes and hopefully this will remove the dye which has transferred.
