Never Thought I would Be Glad To Go Back To BT !

Having suffered months of financial abuse from the so called "cut price" Utility Warehouse I finally flipped last month when I noticed I was being charged 15% extra for not using direct debit, 95p a minute for mobile calls from Portugal and a premium rate 0871 charge when I called them to complain.

How refreshed was I when I called BT and got all three of our home lines onto Option 3 for a TOTAL of £7.95 per month, which they adjusted onto the one account to make it work in my favour. Now, instead of paying £9.95 x 3 every month, I get the lot for £7.95 ! All I need to do now is sort out my mobile calls and thats a whole lot of money saved, and a lesson learned !

Welcome to the MSE forums TonyUK.

You appear to have been given a very good deal by BT (as you obviously know, BT Together Option 3 [inclusive UK 01/02 calls of up to an hour at any time] should be £7.95 per line so, if you've managed to get that on 3 separate lines for a total of £7.95, you've done extremely well).

Nevertheless, please click the 'HERE' link in my signature below - you may find a few ideas on how to reduce your other call costs.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Incorrect Heinz. If you have multiple lines in a property on one account then you can have them linked. You pay the line rental on all 3 but you only have to pay the package fee on one of them and all 3 lines then share the package. Though I was only ever told this with 2 lines I assume it still works for 3.

That sounds good but how many people have two lines let alone three, now if it was one line rental for two or more lines I would have two.
  • I wish I didn't have to go back to BT. I have spent 7 weeks trying to get an existing line connected - just moved into a new house - and they can't do it. Although they've been able to send me a bill for over £160+, now just got an overdue notice. Hmmm, spent two days waiting for non-existent engineers and spoken to probably 50 people in their call centres and hours waiting for the phone to be answered. Does anyone else have this experience? They say they can't speak directly to the engineers as it is now a separate company, so nothing they can do but send messages! I haven't even asked for Broadband which seems to be a problem for others.

Plus of course the £21 a year club membership.:D

:D Tell me about it ! I have come to the conclusion that U/W is nothing but a cleverly disguised rip off. How many telecoms companies do you know who have recently changed their 0208 customer services number to 0871 just to scrape the last extra droplets of profit out of their customers ? As I said earlier, the 95p a minute from Portugal left me flawed with astonishment.

Anyway, hi to everyone and thanks for making me welcome.

I had a freind with the same issue, a quick email to the chief execs PA who was dealing with my complaint got Openreach to pull thier finger out the bottom & they had thier issue resolved within 24 hours - way before mine was dealt with, fire off an email to the Great Big Ben @ BT, seems to work wonders for the other forum members as it did myself

DRUNKSTAR - my line is active again but I still had no contact back from BT Chief exec PA, shes a really nice lady though, her & Ben make quite a team at resolution & making sure you are not penalised ( ie...no landline while in complaint status ) in the mean time :D
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
