So unless they're cheaper, there is no point.
What do the comp sites say?No free lunch, and no free laptop

Nectar Points maybe ! its British Gas using a well known reputable brand as a marketing ploy. Tescos do the same ( or did ) with First Utility. The tariffs and standing charges are the same0

Am leaving Sainsbury as the service is very poor, especially if you are elderly or disabled. Also, they are expencive . They do not operate a priority register, although they say they do and said they put me on it, so you won't get a meter reading done every six months. I can't read my meter, 70 and arthritic, had estimated bills since before I started with Sainsburys 18 + months ago. Thankfully I got a reading on the day I changed over from OVO as my family were visiting.
Receive £130 from gov. scheme towards my energy cost, was paid to Sainsburys last October2013 but never credited to my account. Sainsburys said it will be credited in the new year - it was not! They appeared to try to put me off changing supplier by telling me it took 8 - 10 weeks average to change. CAB told me 6 weeks average, may be trying to deter me from swapping!
Sainsbury guestimations include how many hours a week I used my tumble drier, washing machine etc. when checking my electricity use! Don't have a tumble drier use a cloths line! They assume people turn on all sorts of appliances on a daily basis. No idea how pensioners live! Don't heat water, cook, heat, use TV or shower with electricity. Washing machine used once a month. Have bottle gas for cooking.
Sainsbury are full of guestermations - every bill estimated then they estimate how much energy I use from all estimated bills! Very poor service, made appointment for meter to be read and no one turned up! I have found they have no consideration for elderly or those with disabilities. Going back to OVO will not get my £130 paid by government, Sainsbury received it but didn't credit my account with, back to CAB again over Sainsburys! Excellent service from OVO and reasonable cost!0 -
As above, Sainsbury's Energy is managed by British Gas.
This means that they offer all the same schemes (WHD, PSR etc)
I'm happy to be proven wrong, but I dont think the Priority Service Register includes a reading every six months. I think BG still tries to read meters at least that frequently anyway. If you are worried about it, just get a reading when it is suitable for you and phone/write/email it in. It'll help keep any estimates accurate.
The £130 for the WHD is not paid to Sainsbury's (or any other suppler) by anyone, and especially nto the government. They pay it themselves (well their customers all contribute) so not sure where you got the idea it was paid to them in September. When did you apply, and do you know how you qualified as Core customers were paid first (for BG at least and don't see it being any different for Sainsbury's). If you were in the Core group, you will still receive the credit even if you leave BG. The broader group need to be with BG to have the credit.
Estimated bills are based on previous consumption at that property - not appliances. If there is no read for a long time, they used to include consumption from nearby properties in the calculation. If the customer doesn't challenge an estimated reading they have no reason to think it was inaccurate. If you are worried about these, give them a reading when you can. It doesn't need to be around bill time.
If you have booked an appointment and they failed to turn up there is a standard compensation amount they should be giving you. It's probably worth a call to check they have done this.0
