The sound is fading out on my old tv, i suppose its on its way out. Was just wondering if external speakers would work ?

if your tv has RGB connectors (the red, white and yellow sockets on the tv) then I believe you can get external speakers? Someone may correct me if i'm wrong though.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

err...it all very much depends on the setup...some TVs have sound out, some don't...
It would, however, be possible to split an input signal to the TV to route the sound somewhere else...ie if you've got a set top box (DVD, VCR, etc), you can take the picture to the TV and the sound to either an amplifier or to some active (powered) speakers...0 -
Even if it doesn't have a female 3.5mm jack or red/white RCA plugs, you can get audio output from the SCART.
Something like that:

The good thing about those is that thanks to the switch, you can use the "dongle" to get sound out or in the TV set. This one also has a composite video signal plug (yellow RCA) and S-video plug (mini-DIN).0 -
speakers are simple designs, and unlikely to half work, the problem is probably further up the chain somewhere, dry joint maybe.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Yes, but nothing you can do about it. Fixing it would mean opening up the TV. Do NOT open a TV ever, it contains very high voltage and could kill you instantly if you poke the wrong place.
The good thing about using the signal from the SCART is that it does not go through the internal amplifier, so you are more likely to supress the problem. I've got a couple of the adaptors I mentionned in my previous post. Just use a male RCA-male RCA cable, and plug your TV to your lounge audio amplifier (e.g. on the "AUX" input). In fact, I always tend to plug my TV on my amp, the sound is much better than the crappy TV speakers!0 -
Right, so if I were to buy a surround sound speaker system it would work going through the dvd player?0
-
Well, yes, you could even plug the speakers directly to the DVD player of course. But that won't help when you watch broadcast channels since then,, the sound wouldn't come from the DVD player obviously.0

thanks, might see if I can find some cheaper speakers on ebay0
-
Right, but if you buy passive speakers (i.e. speakers that do not integrate their own amplifiers), the sound might not be powerful enough. Make sure that they are active speakers, with an amplifier. Basically, if they come with a power supply, they're bound to be active.0

You may well be able to put the TV signal through a VCR (if you still have one) and then use that for the TV sound...0
