Your electric seems to be quite high, you should also check that nobody has put a divert on it somewhere! Especially check out the attic, shed or any outdoor cables, some people will go to great lengths to either avoid paying or encourage their indoor farming.
Just a suggestion, but it happened to someone I know.0 -
HI! I want to thank everyone for their very useful/helpful suggestions on my problem. I've checked and we are being charged for the correct meter! I don't have back up immersion heater. We do have a poorly insulated loft so I'll be looking into getting this sorted (anyone have any suggestions on a company who won't rip me off?). I am educating children and hubby about turning lights off and turning the TV off standby! I've made sure the heating does not come on at all during the night by putting a timer on the boiler. No one is siphoning off my leccy supply, thank god! and I will get a wattmeter - i think it will prove very interesting to everyone in the house to see what uses the most electricity! I've stopped using the tumble dryer and am in the process of changing all my light bulbs! I have decided to pay off the bill by using a 0% card and switch immediately. Thanks enormously for all your feedback I really appreciate it.0

Loft insulation isn't difficult to install yourself (in fact my 14 year old grandson did it for his parents). But I would advise caution so you don't end up with feet poking through the ceiling. Wear a dust mask & goggles as its a bit of a mucky job, especially in an old house.
Wickes are selling it a quite a good price at the moment
Why not set up a spreadsheet and get the kids to read the meters daily and fill it in (you could even just use a sheet of paper)- you could then get it to draw a graph and you could all work at trying to reduce your consumption. Make it a bit of fun (its also a bit educational) and you could be quids inNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
