Odd SOGA issue

I like to play the odd computer game whilst I'm working away, and purchased FIFA 14 for the PC for the purpose of playing it online against friends of an evening.
However, the online play stutters and, despite over 2 months of trying to resolve the issue, it is virtually unplayable for the purpose of which I brought the game.
The problem I have is that the offline version works fine, it's just the online version. This is hosted on an internet server by the game designers, Electronic Arts.
My PC setup far exceeds the minimum requirements to run the game, and having done diagnostics my end there's not anything wrong with my connection. Judging from Twitter, I'm not the only person that has the issue as it's literally filled with thousands of people saying the same.
I purchased the game from a high street retailer, and expect I'd meet resistance if I tried to return it to them as "not fit for purpose". The problem is that the game servers are outside of their control, so they couldn't repair it at all.
There's an EULA for the online service, but I'm stumped as to who I should direct the problem at under SOGA. Any opinions?

SOGA is ALWAYS with the retailer. Not the manufacturer.0

Thought as such, I just had sympathy with the retailer in this case as there's nothing that they can do to fix the issue!0

I think you'll find this a very difficult fight to win.
If the retailer stands their ground you should probably cut your losses and just sell it on when you are done with the single player.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Unfortunately, you can't sell it on for the PC version, as the manufacturer forces you to register the disc.
If anything, it's just made me think twice about buying future titles from that developer.0 -
If i'm not mistaken, at present SoGA only applies to the medium (cd/disc) and not the digital content (the game itself).
It was one of the changes being made to the consumer rights bill to bring SoGA up to date. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
