Broken printer, bought on Amazon Marketplace, firm now defunct

Would be interested to know if anyone sees a way round this conundrum. Have read all the advice and cannot see a quick way myself, apart from approaching HP who seem notoriously uninterested in responding. Here goes:

Expensive HP printer bought Feb 2013 on Amazon Marketplace. Problems from the start, replaced by seller, never quite right but seller then stopped responding to emails and now appears as "temporarily unavailable" on Amazon. Emails via Amazon to them are returned saying "cannot be delivered as problems with their email system"! Printer now further problems and no longer working

Paid with debit card >120 days ago so no route there I can see

Approached Amazon - not my problem is their answer as is over 90 days from purchase (that time spent trying to sort the problems with the seller) and sold on marketplace, not actually via Amazon

Approached HP - wrote to Hewlett Packard Complaints Dept Amen Corner Cain Road Bracknell Berks RG12 1HN - not even got a response from them.

Left with a dud printer and £500 poorer. Any ideas apart from don't buy from Marketplace or HP in the future!

You have no rights with anyone but the seller, can Amazon not give you an address you can write to?

I would suggest calling HP support rather than going straight to the complaints department. Did you have an option to register the product with them upon purchase, and do you still have a receipt showing the date of purchase? Hopefully they'll show goodwill and assist you in light of the seller no longer trading.

Good luck, and I hope they manage to resolve it for you.

  • Have you checked the legal entity that sold you the goods? The invoice should identify who it is and then enquiries can be made. There is no requirement to only approach them via the market place you bought it and given you are outside of their protection there is little benefit of doing so.
