Hi I bought a leather corner suite and then a 2 seater from the same range 6 months later. I have these about 6 years. My problem is they both started to bubble on the base of cushions about 3 months ago where we would sit, now they have totally peeled away to reveal the material or whatever. I have another reids natutsi leather sofa over 12 years and its great.
Any advise ?
Have Reids gone bust as I live in republic of Ireland?
I wonder have I been sold an inferior product. I should still have the receipt stating leather...
I know 6 years seems a reasonable amount of time but its not in heavy usage and it never is abused, and I bought leather for the long life of it.. and it was not cheap as such..

  • You will have different legislation in Ireland than over here.

Since it is harmonized across the EU it will be similar. I believe that you will have a very hard time pursuing this as you will have to prove that the fault was with the product at time of purchase.

In England you can only claim upto 5 years. In Scotland 6 years from date of discovery. Im not sure about ROI. However from uni, if I remember correctly Scotland's was the most generous out of all of EU states (something to do with the way our legal system works) so I think you will be out of luck.

    Reids is part of Harveys.

It doesn't affect the OP's issue at all, but I fear you have that slightly wrong.

    From MSE's Consumer Rights Guide:
You have up to six years after you bought a good to complain
(In Scotland, it's five years after you first realised there was a problem)

After 6 years do you have no chance, the life of one sofa has nothing to do with the wear and tear of another.
  • Can't help help help - you essentially have no remaining rights as I'm pretty sure you won't be able to pursue a remedy after 6 years.

If you're after something guaranteed to last this long I'd look for a seller that offers a longer manufacturer warranty or service plan (some are 10 years+) but otherwise you'll have the same gamble again next time.
