Dla Tribunal

Have got DLA tribunal next week . what can i expect ? . Will i be subject to any form of medical examination. Have not got much support from my GP because she is useless and not really interested in her job since being paid £126000 a year (works 3 days a week and goes of on fun runs for the rest of the time) Would i be offending the panel if i told them this , because i would certainly like to. 60 years old awaiting double knee replacement , cervical and lumbar spondylosis, emphysemia, arthritis in feet and hip , awaiting neurologist appointment for balance problem. Have low rate care and asking for mobility. Cannot walk more than 30 yards and have blue badge. The problem with my GP is that she does not listen to my problems , just books me in with a specialist on a routine appointment, therefore getting me off her back for a long period. Worked all my life until 18 months ago.

Do you have medical backing elsewhere? Consultants at the hosptal, OT, Social worker etc:confused: ..they could all write supporting letters.

I personally would NOT mention what you state about your doctor as it sounds like sour grapes and the panel wont like it. Remember though, that DLA is awarded on how your illness effects you and not on diagnosis!

I agree with what everyone else has said as it will not help you at all to say what you think of your GP. I have had 2 tribunals in the past where there have been 4 on the panel one of them a doctor. They will ask you questions and you have time to answer and be able to say how it affects you. I do remember being asked whether I had a mobile phone and if I were in trouble would I be able to use it!??? What this had to do with anything I really don't know to this day!

You are able to take someone in with you, perhaps you have someone who helps you and knows how your condition affects your everyday living and they may be able to speak on your behalf. It does help a great deal if you have backing of someone in the medical profession - do you have a nurse who comes round or someone?

With having to sit in front of a panel, it may be better for you if you did take someone with you, for some moral support.

I also agree, don't slate the Drs and don't grumble about how you used to work... just explain the facts as honestly as you can and I am sure everything will be fine.
  • Hi Fos
You have had some great advice, I wouldn't complain about the gp because they tend to stick together, it won't get you anywhere.
Couldn't you also see a different doctor in your surgery one is possibly more sympathetic it is worth a try my doctor has been brill with me.
    Best wishes

Yes Davsiddip i had an EMP and his report was quite reasonable except he said he thought i should be able to walk a 100 yds which i cannot, about 30 yds and i am all in. He put in his report that i could not wash or dress my lower half unaided.Consultant has got me on his list for double knee replacement

You're awaiting double knee replacement and you have to go to a Tribunal? It makes me so angry how people with seemingly nothing wrong get DLA yet people who genuinly deserve it have to beg... I suppose they want you to crawl their on your hands and tired knees?

the trouble with it fos is there are quitea few un genuine claimants that they have made it much harder but saying that hubby went to tribunial and got it then dla lost the paperwork but they were really good in getting it sorted out quickly so cannot fault them.
