    I don't have Vista so have never tried this... but you almost certainly do have a Username on the computer. It should be shown at the top of the Start Menu for instance.

    So what happens if you enter the Username, and then leave the password blank before you press Enter?

    Thanks, I am getting somewhere now.
    I can now access the pc from the laptop, but cant see any files.
    My head is spinning now so I will leave file sharing, if it is possible, 'till tomorrow!

    As I mentioned previously - you must enable the share on folders/files before the other machine can see them.
    You can lose a loose goose.
    You cannot loose a lose goose.
    Get it? Now use it before you lose it.

    having a user account password has never been compulsory on windows installs...and they can be a right PITA when you're repairing them.
