Hi,
My springer is nearly 5 now & still very full of life, loves her walks. We do agility & working trials with her & she loves it & really channels her energy.
One thing to look at is what food do you feed & what treats do you give? The food may not be suiting him, too high protien for example, is it an additive free food? Same with the treats.
I can really reccommend this forum which is dedicated to springer owners & it's a great place. www.englishspringer.org.uk0 -
5??? She's but a baby! Mine will be 14 this year and still keeps the 7 year old labradoodle in his place, spins and slides across the kitchen floor when its tea time, hurls herself onto the sofa with leaps that would put Desert Orchid to shame. She used to love agility, but I couldn't keep up with her..Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

My Springer Ollie is 5 now, he pulls so badly I tried a head halti it caused problems with his eyes, I tried a Halti harness which seemed to help until it broke and the newest style seems to twist.
I read a review for the mekuti and ordered one with the lead.He still pulls with it!
He is good indoors and good off the lead though so I suppose im lucky0 -
Our Poppy is 7 months and very jumpy (I am pregnant so we do tell her off when she does it.) she has a cage she is shut in when no one is home as she will eat things if not supervised but if your home she will just follow you around. She does need a lot of walking. She has a harness to get her safely to the common but you couldn't walk her far on it - she would pull me over lol.
Springers are very excitable and need a lot of exersize. If we don't you sure know about it.3 Children - 2004 :heart2: 2014 :heart2: 2017 :heart2:

Our springer is 7 now, has had ops on both legs, and still expects at least 3 hours of walks a day, and spends most of the day running around the house.
We actually find he is better walking off the lead and will remain at heel constantly, compared to if he is just on the lead to get to the field.
Every walk involves water /mud and a vast number of sticks being thrown, and 10 min after getting home he wants to go again.
We do change his toys every other day, hiding the rest upstairs. But he is thick. Throw a tennis ball at a brick wall, ball bounces off, and so does the dog!0 -

I know Raksha, she is our 2nd one & i'm hoping she too will still be crazy at the age of 13:)
Re the agility I can't keep up either:rotfl:luckly she will go on ahead with me cutting corners:)0 -
As everyone else has said, Springers are just nuts 95% of the time.
We rescued a 6 year old Springer last year who pulls like a train and hates other dogs, Lots of walks and training helps tire them out as well as giving him his breakfast in a Kong so he has to work for it.
They are the best dogs you can get though0 -
You will never tire a springer out just walking them, all you do by giving them hrs and hrs of running is make sure that you have a fit springer, brain work is so much better, and it can be as simple as sit, stand lay down for 5 - 10 minutes or another favourite is scatter their meals in the garden and make them work for it.
you don't say what you're feeding him, i would definitely get him off puppy now he's castrated, but steer clear of high protein foods, and definitely nothing with colours in.
For info i have 5 of the little darlings, and my 8 year old, works every weekend during the shooting season and does flyball during the summerLBM 2 and the OH is onboard sept 12, DMP will start on the 1st November, DFD who cares as longs as it comes:)
1 year down 5 to go and now under 30k and 10% paid off :beer:0
