  • Hey,

We have bought dresses for the bridesmaids and will be buying their jackets and jewellery. I've also got them a photo frame to put a pic of all of us in and they will be getting a personalised candle each. The maid of honor, my best friend for over 20 years, will also be getting a special memory book.
The best man and usher will be getting cufflinks, belts, t shirts and socks to match our superhero theme and the flowers will be made out of comic books so they can keep them and I'm sure oh has something else in mind for them too.
Mil isn't getting a thing as she isn't helping at all except she'll get a flower to match everything else and my dad is getting cufflinks to match the other boys. I may do him a memory book aswell as we have been thru a lot in the last few years. Xxx

I think that if you intend to hand the gifts over at the Reception then both sets of parents should be treated the same.

Additional, extra gifts can be given privately. I attended a wedding where it was obvious to all that the MIL was not accorded the same respect as the mother of the bride and it was quite uncomfortable for a lot of the guests.
  • hi got married in october and the bestmen (there were 2 of them) got shirts and ties bought for them, bms got their dresses and hair and makeup on the day, it saved buying them all things they didnt really want, and they didnt have to pay for the wedding clothes, i also let them have pretty much free reign with what they wanted as all were adults. worked really well my mum had her makeup and hair done also, sadly oh's parents have passed away so we had some flowers done for their grave

I've bought bridesmaids a necklace and also put together a bit of a kit of things they might need during the day - plasters, lip balm, mini body spray, wipes, mirror etc. not sure how i will present it yet, might just bung it all in a bag!

For my mum I was thinking of a vase as flowers wont really last although still nice! not sure about my dad yet, maybe a tankard type thing?

we're not doing presents for MIL or FIL as they havent contributes financially or helped with the wedding at all...is that really rude of me?!

    xx

I brought some lovely thank you for being a bridesmaid gift bags from either Amazon or EBay pretty sure it was Amazon.

Wish I could have not got my MIL anything but OH wouldn't have allowed it  even though like yours she did SFA! She even rang us 6 weeks before the wedding asking for us to pay their travel & hotel costs!!

  • My mum got flowers at both my sisters' weddings, as did their mothers-in-law. I was a bridesmaid at both their weddings and was given a voucher for a spa treatment at one and a very nice vintage-style hand mirror at the other.

The gift bag idea is nice, as is jewellery - I'm not sure what I'm going to get my bridesmaids yet though. OH is thinking hip flasks or tankards for his best man and ushers, and I don't know about the dads.

I gave my bridesmaids matching braclet, necklace and earring sets which they wore on the day. For my mum and MIL I got two handbags, I typically see flowers being given but figured a handbag would last longer! These were presented in gift boxes after the meal. Those were all from debenahms.
Best man, groomsman and fathers all got cufflinks and tie pin sets from H Samuel. The flower girl and page boy got a gift bag with toys each.
so much to think about - Best of luck!
