What gifts are you giving bridesmaids/MIL etc

Hi All,

Just wondering what gifts you are giving to Bridesmaids/MIL/Mother/Best Man/Ushers etc if any? I was thinking of making up some gift bags for each but just wondered what everyone else was doing and for any money saving tips! My other half was thinking of hip flasks for the ushers, and I was thinking of some jewellry for the bridesmaids, but i'm a little stuck for future MIL (I've seen some nice embroided hankies but thats it)

Any ideas much appreciated :T

Ohhh we are starting to think about this now as well (wedding is in 6 months) so any ideas would be good to throw into our pot as well.

Our grooms men and brothers and bridesmaids are sisters so they really do not expect to get anything but we want to do something for them for all of their help.

We are having a locally produced wedding with everything is Welsh and so are our Clogau rings. I was thinking of picking up a few Clogau bracelets or cuff links or maybe a 'goody bag' to give them on the day but i don't really know what i would put in them? I guess getting jewellry would be easier but more expensive.

I gave my matron & flowergirl dresses (the matron remarried in hers, she was so happy in it), we didn't have ushers & where does it say you give your MiL a gift?!

If you must, a beautifully caligraphed "thank you" for the gift that is the marvellous man you're marrying & how without her hard work, patience, stubbornness & bare naked maternal genius, you would be short the man of your dreams.

Don't go making promises to keep him as well fed & cared for as she has done - you may not want to set up trouble for yourself (!) but a dizzily-in-love thankyou note might amuse her sufficiently to keep her feeling benevolently towards you.

I didn't give my mother anything (other than a darn hard time, with hindisight) - have things changed That Much in 15 years?!

BM's got - their jewellery for the day, they also got a sleepover kit including PJ's dressing gown slippers and a no.7 set, a Teddy in a bag, a personlised champagne flute, a little nessie (got married at Urquhart Castle) which was pink with prettyness written on it, some bath bombs and a heart soap. Also their hair and make up was paid for.

Ushers - Got a personlised shot glass and then personal presents for example a Jager Lighter and my brother for a cuddly shark and mug from the Disney shop (he loves sharks and is a veggie same as the shark in Finding Nemo) and a pair of brother of the bride socks

BM - Got a personlised hip flask and a bottle of whisky

MIL - a pandora charm with different versions of mum on it so Mum Mom Mama ect as OH always calls her MOM and I say MUM so it was an in joke.

My Mum - a mug with mother of the bride and a MOB survival kit, personalised champagne flask, sleepover kit same as BM's and same with the bath bombs. We then also brought her a star

For me the Mother and Mother In Law are both going to get flowers(which reminds me I still need to sort those out!)

No idea what the wife to be has got for the bridesmaids as I've left that up to her but I do know she spent roughly £15 a head.

For the best man and my two ushers I've gone with cuff links which worked out at about £13 a head.

All three work in offices so wear cuff links every day but rather than just get some generic ones I've tried to personalise them.

The Best Man is an avid West Ham fan so got him some West Ham ones, one of the ushers is ex army so got him British Army ones and the other one is a in a folk band so got him some ukulele ones which is the instrument he plays.

Getting necklace for bridesmaid champagne flowers for mil. No idea about best man gifts
Needing to lose weight start date 26 December 2011 current loss 60 pound Down. Lots more to go to get into my size 6 jeans
  • Have no idea what to get my mum.

she doesnt eat dairy, gluten or sugar. Allergic to perfume and has really bad hayfever so cant get flowers. Doesnt drink much either.

im thinking flowers for mil as thats the 'done thing' though i dont particularly want to.

not sure bout rest was thinking jewellery for bridesmaid and flowergirl
  • My bridesmaids, flower girl and MOH are getting heart shaped lockets (found five on amazon for a steal!) which is because when I was a bridesmaid at 4 years old, that's what I got given and will be my "something old" on the day

I'm thinking of doing some embroider for the MIL; I'll probably just get something jokey for my mam, although maybe she would prefer something serious to remember the day by?

Best Man is a MASSIVE superman fan, so something superman themed no doubt... The Boss will have to choose his other ushers before usher gifts get chosen, I expect if he gets his way they'll all be given transformers!
Officially saved enough to cover the cost of our wedding! :A

I've bought bridesmaids a necklace and also put together a bit of a kit of things they might need during the day - plasters, lip balm, mini body spray, wipes, mirror etc. not sure how i will present it yet, might just bung it all in a bag!

For my mum I was thinking of a vase as flowers wont really last although still nice! not sure about my dad yet, maybe a tankard type thing?

we're not doing presents for MIL or FIL as they havent contributes financially or helped with the wedding at all...is that really rude of me?!

If the gifts are for specific help given, roles played, or financial contribution then no its not rude, If the gifts are just to say tank you for being mum, dad, sister, brother, best friend etc then while it may not be rude it does say a lot about what place you may be planning to make for your in laws in your future family life.

Hopefully none of the gifts will be handed ceremoniously in front of the in laws at the event. That would be rude.

  • I plan to get my smaller bridemaids pearl necklaces as my theme is pearls, I have got my adult bridemaid a pearl bracelet with a heart shaped charm on it with her initial on it as she already had a pearl necklace. I will also put together a 'Bridesmaid' emergency kit which I will pop into a wicker hamper. I am doing toilet hampers for the guests too which will all just be stuff from £1 shops.

My Grandma has put towards the wedding and I got her a pearl brooch which is similar to one she had stolen years ago.

My Mum will be getting something pearly too although I am not sure what yet.. Maybe a necklace the same as mine although I will decide this closer to the time I think. I will also get her a massive bouquet of flowers to match the wedding flowers. My Dad I have got cufflinks for which say on on 'Father of the Bride' and on the other 'I loved her first' which made me cry when I saw them they are so cute!!

I am not sure what to do for my page boys and ring bearer. I was thinking a St. Christopher on a chain though as its something they can take through into adulthood. BM and Ushers will be getting a personalised Zippo as they are all smokers.

Not sure what to do for witnesses yet - I probably wouldn't bother but my brother is my witness and when my other brother got married they did get something for them so I feel I should do something 'token' - maybe a nice picture frame?!

I am getting myself and H2B a present too (cuz I can) which will be custom converse on - his nickname (and part of surname) is Bling so I will get him some with Bling on and me some with Mrs Bling on.
