Reclaiming Attendance Allowance

Andy, I do love your theoretical questions. How do you manage to think of them all?0

The care I was giving her was becoming impossible to continue. There were no costs associated with her disabilities. If I wasn't around then she would have had to pay for people to come in.
So you didn't in fact need the Attendance Allowance, keep digging :beer:Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama

Sorry I didn't see your reply. So you didn't in fact need the Attendance Allowance, keep digging
We needed the allowance to be able to live. The allowance can be spent on anything, you just have to have the care needs. As I have mentioned, there need not be any expense involved in providing for those needs. I did it for free.0 -
Residents in care home continue to get Attendance Allowance if they are self funding. You could argue that care home residents are getting all the help they need using bath aids etc. I can't recall AA being withdrawn and I have been an active member of an Alzheimer's forum for nearly six years.0

I didn't think of that. So I could argue that even if all of my wife's needs are being met due to the considerable adaptions etc, she should still be entitled to the allowance.
I'll let you know what the DWP say.0 -

We both get the State Pension only. We had AgeUK look at the Pension Credit thing, but according to them we had too much capital and income.
So, according to your previous posts on this thread, you get £230 a week (AA and DLA are not means tested) and you have £3000 capital. And you both get SRP, so obviously you're not on full pension.
You'd get Pension Credit, like the poster I was telling you about, who had an income of about £800 a week. He was a real card! I wonder why AgeUK told you differently? I'm so glad you're appreciating the site.
