Hi, I'm 27 years old and have never had a credit card. I was thinking about getting one however I was rejected the first time and scared to try again, as I know that if you apply for one too many it will affect your rating. I would like to build a credit rating but honestly I have no idea what to do and where to start! If anyone could help me or know what credit card companies I should be looking at I will be grateful. My bank is Barclays and was wondering if they would be my best bet? Thank you in advance!

try your own bank first : their 'initial ' is targetted at first time users0 -
Also worth reading http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/bad-credit-credit-cards for suggestions about what to do next after a CC rejection....0

when did you apply for the previous one, was it recent ?
a single rejection won't really make a huge difference, as long as you don't keep trying to apply after being rejected a few times.
as you are with barclays, the obvious choice would be to go for the Barclaycard Initial0
