Advice on going Bankrupt, specific questions

Hi jojo
Welcome to the forum and well done on getting to the stage where you are about to take the plunge. Bankruptcy is not an easy step - don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Please read all the threads you can on here about those who have been there and got the bankruptcy t-shirt - their experiences will help make it all a lot less daunting for you. Already, you have had some great responses above. In my experience, those people who fret the most about bankruptcy are the ones who have the least to fret about.
The court will expect you to get some formal bankruptcy advice before you attend court, so whoever you speak to - whether that is us or another charity - I hope that the info they give you is clear and reassuring.
Good luck

Thank you for all the responses, i have so many questions in my head. This has gone on for too long and i don't know how much longer i can carry on like this.
I have question, i noticed on the bankruptcy forms that i need to provide my landlords address, will they be contacted? I would like as few people as possible to know i'm applying for bankruptcy.
I am going to contact charity's on Thursday for more advice, just hoping i'm not fobbed off in a sense like last time, and have the fear of god put into me.
Can i ask other question, and i understand that it and has to be my decision but knowing my circumstances, is bankruptcy the best option for me?
I'm guessing i'm just looking for guidance from people who have been in my position.
Thankyou0 -
I am sorry we cannot tell you whats the best for you, I do understand how you feel, If one debt charity does not feel right speak to another, I found stepchange good for me, and I read everything I could the more you know the more informed decision you will make. xx0

If you owe more than 15k, can repay less than £80 a month and you are renting, then bankruptcy is certainly an option that should be considered BUT we can't say that you should do it as there may be lots of things you haven't told us and we haven't seen what your Statement of Affairs looks like (that's a list of your income and expenditures)
You sound very uncertain - I think you should be talking to some other charities so that you can get good advice from them. Try StepChange or National Debtline over the phone, or go to your local Citizens Advice Bureau.0 -
Thanks longtermplanner, I am uncertain but I think that is mainly because of the advice I was given by a charity the last time I called. They basically made out that I was going to be a lot worse off than what I am now (ignoring my debts) I think it scared me a little. I know isn't going to be a clear cut decision but surely anything has got to be better than ignoring my debts and burying my head in the sand. Going to call some charities tomorrow.0

You need to get some proper advice from one of the charities already mentioned or CAB, etc.
There's not really a choice to be made. You either need to declare bankruptcy or you don't. The charities can sit with you, work out your incomings/outgoings and let you know whether you need to do it.
The important thing is you're aware of the problem and you're starting to deal with it.AD March 2014

Noticed your need for help by chance, jojo.
You are being brave and safe in coming here for advice, options[it is not a no-way-out tunnel you are in]and choices, for these will flower too.
You say you have an appointment tomorrow. That's good - more courage you have found and flexed. Also remember that the more you exercise this quality, so long hidden away, the stronger it AND YOU, become. You'll be feeling different even by coming to mse. Well done:T
I'll do one bit of being bossy right now; I'm allowed as I had an ancient birthday last week.
I'm altering this one ' Going to call some charities tomorrow.' to this:
'Going to call CAP on Freephone 0800-3280006, or 01274-760720 in my break today.'
https://capuk.org/
Take a sounding on them by looking at their twitter feed, bottom right. It's the column headed 'Be Social With Us'.
Their work and attitude is outstanding. Martin has a high regard for them. They will be kind, but most of all, their advice will be up-to-date, accurate and sound. I'm not trying to chivvy votes for favourites; just know through many cases that they are superb. You will also sleep better, knowing that window envelopes go direct to them. Debtors and bailiffs do not mess with CAP. You will have an element of 'for jojo' in your Budget.
They are Christians Against Poverty. started by a business man, have won Best Small Business to Work For, several times, from the broadsheets' awards[if you need other credentials] Yes, times being as they are, their services are in high demand. Again, I urge you to call them. They will not/do not proselytise. The Christian element is WHY they do this work.
Will you try? In the meantime, well done yet again for coming here and setting out your situation. There are wonderful posters here who will help all they can. You're already reading some of them.
Now, soft hugs to you, to little poppet, to partner for understanding and believing in you. Strength and courage are in your hands.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:
