Can I claim carers allowance ?

Was wondering if I could claim carers allowance for looking after a friend?
My partner gets state pension, he also receives army pension, and a private pension, and a tiny bit of savings element of pension credit.
This brings our income to being about £270 a week
We also get a tiny bit of H/B and C/T each week, as my son still lives at home.
My friend who is disabled gets DLA , mobility, ( or it might be contribution based ESA) both high rate, she is also registered blind.
Her husband works full time, does different shifts each day.
She has suggested to me that I become her carer to help her out as she is finding day to day things a struggle even more now.
Would I be able to claim carers allowance, or would it affect our benefits? Also would it affect her benefits also?

If you don't want to work, you have to work to earn enough money so that you won't have to work

It's counted as income so could affect your benefits, I don't think so but I cannot say for certain. It won't affect hers.Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -

You could model this scenario in the Turn2us online calculator. Add the CA to your income using this wizard and see if it affects your other benefits.0

Do you earn more than £100 a week after NI and tax? (and possibly pension contributions; unsure of the rules for that)Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Am totally confused with the turn 2 us calculator,
. Do I put it in as claiming carers allowance, or put it down as paid work?
I was hoping to claim carers allowance to care for my friend... Not sure how to go about doing it tho ( which department to ask etc )
I will be doing the 35 hours, which as far as I am aware is a payment of £59.75 per week.
My partner gets state pension, army pension and a private pension, which gives us a weekly income of about £270, we get savings pension credit of about £3.80 per week.
My son lives at home and earns £400+ pw
We get a small amount of housing benefit and council tax benefit as it's worked out on my sons income .
Just wondered if it will affect anything that we claim now, as the extra money if I am entitled to it will help towards petrol etc going to and from my friends house ..."I live my dream today, I lived it yesterday and I'll be living yours tomorrow":smileyhea

You would put it in as in receipt of carers allowance this would give you the new entitlement.
Reading your post it should not effect your friends ESA, they have a partner who is working full time so I doubt if they are getting SDP on their ESA0
